Ok the other day I posted about my car overheating a little bit, darn thing hit 276 deg F. and boiled out 1.5 gals of coolant... Ugh.

Well I went out and let the car idle to see if the fan was even coming on and it did, at 223 deg F. at 209 deg F it turned off. is this normal? seems like it should come on a bit sooner. is there any way of adjusting it? shorrt of getting a different fan that is user adjustabable which I might do anyway...

I put in a new Tstat, and it has new coolant, what else? I dont really think I can pull the water pump in my driveway, darn thing looks a bit burried. Maybe the serpentine belt? think it could be slipping???

This is so annoying. I just bought the car but I cant drive it...

Maybe the temp sensor is bad, how do you know what temps it is turning on and off at? Do you have aftermarket gauges? How many miles are on the car?

The water pump is very burried, and is run by the timing belt. Its a weekend project for the 1st timer, and that is only if you are comfortable working on the car. If you mess it up you will probably bend the valves.

138000 miles. I am logging it through MMCD on a palm is how I know what the temps are at. as to the bad sensor.. if I sit in traffic for a couple mins the FACTORY gauge goes up in temp as well. I just ran it 40 miles adn at the end the temp was 246 on MMCD and the factory gauge was at about 2/3rds up from cold.

does the overheating only happen when idloling? and what about the second fan?

second fan is for the AC as far as I know. adn if I turn on the AC they both come on regardless of what the temp is, like it should happen.

I drive 98 miles one way to work. the last time I drove this car there about 1/2 way I noticed my temps were up in the 240's. By the time I got to work it was 276 and boiling over.

I pulled out the T'stat today and drove 40 miles. temps stayed near 219, but once I cut off the AC they got up to 240. at a stop light right infront of my house temp hit 251. Mind you this was with NO T'Stat installed. On my next days off I am going to flush out the system and see if that helps. otherwise it looks like I might have to tak it to the dealer and get a new water pump put in.

Or maybe some of you smarter guys have some more ideas????......... Please!
