I have a 97 Intrepid with a 3.5L and about 3 months ago I was getting check engine with a multiple cylinders misfiring so I changed the plugs and wires and cleared the code and all was well. This week the check engine light came back on and it is once again the code is for multiple cylinders misfiring. Is there something else that can be causing this code. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

since you have the 3.5, it's very common for those engines to have the intake manifold gasket slip and cause misfires, check that out and see what goes.

I'm getting the same thing in my daughters 96 ES. I did a major tune-up back first of the year. Started skipping again so I just assumed the Bosch plugs were freaking out. I replaced them and it ran fine for couple weeks. Then it started skipping again. It has showed different codes on occasion from #6 cylinder miss-fire to Multiple miss-fire.

Hey Freaskter, would a bad intake gasket cause this? Could some carb cleaner sprayed around intake confirm or deny this?

Ernie,

hey buddy, how's it going? Yeah a bad intake manifold gasket can cause a misfire not to mention a hissing sound coming from under the hood. The gasket usually goes bad around the #5 cylinder.
