93 6.5L glow plug light

Truck starts great when cold. After I run it for a while, and shut it off, it will not start again, and the glow plug light does not come on. I replaced the glow plug relay, and it still does it. Should the glow plug come one every time the truck is started, even for a few seconds? Could it be the coolant switch?
