K & N High Intake Kit

I was at my local Advance Auto Parts store last week and I saw their ad for the K & N High Intake Kit. So I flipped through their catalog and saw that they made a model for a 99 Grand Prix GT. The book listed a HP increase of 13.3 which would be nice if that's actually true.
So I had the clerk look up the price for it, and after spending 25 mins he finally called someone and they said it was like $320. This unit comes with the heat shield tube that connects directly to the MAF to the K & N Air box. I'm wondering if paying an extra $100 for the heat shield tube is worth it, when I could buy any other cold intake kit for at most $220.

I believe that you answered your own question and I agree go with a CAI that has a proven track record.

I also agree with purchasing a CAI for increasing your rides HP a little bit. I also think you might want to step up the filter itself to a Kboz fan filter. It seems to give me better results than any other filter I have tried. I purchased one about 6 months ago and was pleased with the results as well as the appearence upgrade overall. I put mine on a CAI pipe. At night, it looks wicked through my front bumper air vent. I believe I only paid like $69 dollars for mine but you might want to check for yourself. It definitely gives you constant cold air right into your intake without stalling the vehicle through all RPM ranges.Plus you can choose what neon color you want to match your engine, which I thought was pretty cool since I have a black and red color scheme to my 95civic. So I got the Red Neon one. Thought I would give my two cents Just my opinion, but maybe a worth wild purchase compared to $220 or $300.00. Look into it if you get a chance. peace!

Xero: K&N is quite expensive, but it does perform. So youre kinda on your own as to whether you want to pay that much or not. To kind of give you an idea, I made my dad a short tube intake for his '00 Chrysler Sebring, it sounded bad ass and i could feel an improvement. It was free, made from a leftover intake pipe from my old car and a cone filter I already had. So consider making your own intake, its really easy. Just buy some old one and cut it, or even get some piping from an exhaust shop. Just cut and use couplers with screw type bands(hose clamps) to hold it together.
