i have a 94 SL, with the electronicly controlled suspension, i was wondering what its like to lower my car. in other words, would you have to replace the struts and shocks, even know they are probably really good already? or is it just the springs?

a lot of people replace their struts with the KYB's which are the same thing as factor non-ecs struts. Some people keep their ECS and find out after a couple of months that their ride is bouncy in tour mode and have to switch to sport mode to keep from bouncing so much. Also, if you drop your rear more than an inch, you might have to invest in rear control arms and toe arms, because after dropping your car so much, your rear camber comes out of alignment causing unever wear on your rear tires. Just something to think about.

My car's dropped and it sucks because my shocks or something is shot. There's a clunking noise whenever I go over bumps and stuff. But it does look a lot better and the handling has improved. If you're wondering, I have Eibach springs. I'm thinking about just getting coilovers since it'll be about $1,100 to replace the shocks themselves....but that's another $400 that I'm looking at spending if I get coilovers so I don't know yet. :p

If you just get lowering springs, you should get shocks as well, as eventually they will wear out faster with aftermarket springs.

well the only bad thing is that the replacement shocks are the same shocks that mitsu uses, so either way they will wear out quicker.

Unless if you get aftermarket shocks, right? I'm trying to figure out what setup to use in another thread with Musashi....

no, what i am saying is that the only aftermarket shocks that are available for our cars are the KYB GR2's. The shocks that Mitsubishi uses (OEM shocks) are KYB GR2's, so we're pretty much stuck with the KYB's lol. The only difference is that the ""actual"" KYB's only come in non-ecs

LOL That sucks but at least we can't really go wrong then. :p When the shocks on coilovers wear out, is it possible to replace them? If so then do people just end up getting a KYB shock put in with a say TEIN setup?

well actually, i believe, if you buy a coilover set, like tein (those ones that are over a grand) then they should come with their own shocks. But if your just talking buying the "actual" shock alone, then the only aftermarket ones are the KYB's

Yeah, I get you. But what if the shocks need to be replaced on the coilovers? Do they just have to replace the whole system or can they just buy a KYB shock to replace it or would TEIN have a shock of their own for replacement? I'm just wondering....but yeah, okay....KYBs it is then. Now I just gotta take some time to look through everything. :p

i'm sure tein has their own replacement shocks for their system, however, i'm sure the shocks they made for their coilover system are made to handle adjustable ride height so they dont wear out like oem shocks would

Hey everybody 3SX Preformance sell a coilover spring kit where you don't have to change the ESC shocks and struts. I am planning on installing them when I gat a chance to. I am hoping the ride will not change at all. Oh! 3SX Preformance also seel the struts and shocks ESC and the non-ESC. Just for your information.

only problem about keeping the stock shocks with new springs is that those shocks are made for those springs and plus if the car is a older car like mine, once you put the new springs on there the shock wont be able to handle the new springs and will after a while go bad and be shot...
