Electric Fan.

Does anyone know how to wire up an electric fan to come on at a certain temp? I have a Mark VIII fan with a 3 wire pigtail. This is a two speed fan. Any help would be appreciated. I would rather not wire it to a toggle switch.

WoW. I'm installing the Mark 8 fan I got off ebay this weekend and I was gonna ask the same question. There are a few sites I found with install instructions, but most people ran there fans always on or to a manual switch. I dont want that either. Did you upgrade to a 3G yet?

No, just getting everything together and ready for assembly right now. Was going to buy a coolant temp sender & manual guage but didnt know if I would need a cts and electric guage to run the fan or not. I'm trying to go for simplicity here, so far the hardest thing hase been stripping the wiring harnesses. I dont want a bulge of wires cut off flush at the firewall. I'm building a custom dash and running wires per guage that way, just gonna keep factory wiring for lights, hord, cd player, ect, if I can.

There is a lot of ways to do it, one of the most popular ways wit a Mark VII fan is using a DCC controller. Do a goggle searchfor DCC fan control and you'll come across it.

It's not the cheapest way or the only but that controller paired with a Mark VIII fan is an awesome cooling package.

Pep Boys has a thermastatically controlled relay that has a probe that goes threw the cores in your rad and reads temp and signals a relay to throw the jiuce to the fan I believe they also have them for the two stage fan as well they are about 35 bucks and are adjustable so you can set the limit cut on and off temps,,Im sure the two stage is a little more cost but what the hell NICE STANG!! spend the cash!!

i wired my two speed fan like this. low speed went on my accessory connection/switched by your key.the highspeed lead went on the same connection, but through a thermostat like the guy who mentioned pep boys said. the ground i toggled on my dash :smokin: , to free up hp when i need it.

I have a toggle switch mounted to my dash. It gives me total control over cooling my radiator. I've only had it in a couple of months and so far so good but it s not summer yet. Waiting to see how it does once the temperature outside stays consistantly hot.

Yes it does power a relay and is not directly to the fan. I know the way I worded that it sounded questionable. But it does work from a toggle on my dash. I only turn it on when the temp gauge gets a little less than half way up or on the r in the word normal. If it is a seventy degree + day out I will switch it on as soon as I start the car. Car used to run NEVER HAD A Palmost up in the red when stopping and going alot. Have had no problem since switch installed. have never had a problem with highway driving.

Good to hear. When racing you can leave it on, to cool the engine...big bonus:)
