Questions before purchasing an FC

As the title states, I've got some questions about the FC. I'm actually debating between the FC and an MK III. I plan on going as hardcore for the street as I can. Going as far as I can before it's not stree driveable on the street due to running lean.
1.) Which version of the FC will have the most potential?
2.) I know rotary engines aren't exactly the most reliable engines on the planet, but what are the weak points of the engine...or the rest of the car in general. What parts NEED to be swapped out for aftermarket parts?
3.) How hard is it to find people that wrench on these engines? I have my fair share of mechanical skills, but never had the pleasure of working on one of these engines.
4.) Anything else I should be aware of if I purchase one?

A: rotary engines are VERY reliable. Go drive a honda civic for 250,000kms withouth removing the head :P
Weak points, IMO, apex seals, OMP, fuel rails, wiring, various switches and sensors

A: Its hard to find a mechanic who ACTUALY knows what they are doing, rather than the ones who follow what they are told from books abd videos to slap togethere a motor. <VERY common problem

A: Gas milage bites, OEM parts are generaly best, NEVER RUN THE CAR LEAN, detonation is bad(=blown apex seal), invest in aftermarkets water tem guage as soon as purchased, DO ALL GENERAL MATINENCE BEFORE MODIFING A THING!!!!

Okay, that doesn't sound as bad as everyone makes it seem. As for the weak points, I guess when it comes to various switches and sensors I'll have to find out what they are when they go bad, huh.
And as far as general maint goes...what exactly would you classify as "general" maint?
What do you do about having somebody work on the car, or do you do it all yourself?

that whole unrelaivility shit started with the 3rd gen. but thats for another time.
basic maintenance, oil changes every 1000 miles (may be more or less depending on how you drive), change coolant for summer/winter etc. spark plugs/wires. check grounds (old cars have electrical problems).
i dont want to sound biased, but i feel that the 2nd gen rx7 is better than the mk3 supra in every way. (but if you were discussing the 3rd gen rx7 and mk4 supra i'd have something else to say).

The MKIII supra is a decent car, but i do not class it with the RX7.
The supra is VERY heavy, and has its own problems. Ie.blows head gaskets often, and othere little bits here and there.Its more of a GT car.
My friend has a MKIII (89) making 621rwhp, and he runs high to mid 11's.
Take the same power and put in a FC, run high 9's.

That's awesome. I'm going to be taking more auto-classes at school this coming up year, but I'm pretty sure the prof that I've been working with doesn't do rotarys. Any books or sites (other than "how stuff works") to get some info on them so I can learn to wrench on it myeslf. It's kinda expensive to just open it up and screw something up (not that it can totally be avoided, at least minimized).

Yes, but i do not recoment a BOV that dumps to atmosphere. The FC is deisgned so tha the air flow sensor adjust teh fuel misture for how much air has entered through it. When you dump to atmosphere you are making the car run rich. You CAN do it, but some people find that they stall or they car wont run with an open dump. and you will be hurting your preformance.

So is there one you'd recommend instead. I was just asking because Blitz's BOVs are by far the best I've run on any car.

i like to recomend the HKS SSQV BOV with the re-circ adapter. It is better than stock, you do get the sound ( i assume thats why you want to run it) and no adverse effects.
