Where the hell can i find some good roller rockers for $200? I was told Autozone sold some magnum roller rockers for $200, and it is really a good mod. What exactly do they do and how do you install? Just take off the the valve cover gaskets and wammo! Is it that easy? And installing a cam... how do you go about it? What steps do you take to get it off? Would i have to change the heads and springs if i wanted to put a cam in (preferlly the LT1, and some spelling is needed here)?

stuff.....how many miles are on your motor? You would want to do new valve seals and springs while your in there. To install a cam ( ive never done it) you need to remove the intake manifold, remove valve springs and pushrods, then dig your way to your timing gears and then to the cam. Do what it takes to get the cam out, grease the new cam, and stick it in. And reverse all of that. Should be in your shop manual. Like I said, ive never done it. But that is a very very very general and possibly incorrect. Should give you a general sense of what needs to happen though. As far as the rockers go....maybe they are lighter.....that would help your motor.....your motor should already have roller stuff....

I believe 1.6 is the stock ration, but that might just be 4th gen (pretty sure all the upgrades are 1.8 and lighter weight)

I thought 1.5 was stock, for 3rd gen motors atleast. Doesn't really seem that hard to change. It has 81,000 on it and i would have to lift the motor, would i?

.....no.....you would take the radiator out to change the cam. Its much easier in a 3rd gen to do just about everything vs. 4th gen.

Yeah, that another reason why i love 3rd gens much. I was observing the 4th gen that i got the rear from, and the LT1 is soooooo cramped in their, that must really suck doing certain things to it. It looks impossible to put headers on them with out taking the motor out.

looked impossible seemed impossilbe.... should have been impossible.... but they made it in mine...... the 4th gens are just oh so much more fun to work on....

yeah my buddy has a fourth gen, and that car is a bitch to work in there's no freaking room unlike our third gens.

the factory ratio on tpi's is either 1.5 or 1.4, can't remember... what 97camarors is thinking about is the ls1, which comes w/ 1.6 ratio rockers stock, and can handle 1.8 ratio as an upgrade... the gen II sbc's can't really do much more than 1.6...

what a roller rocker will do for ya is reduce valvetrain friction, along w/ open the valves more allowing more air in and out, it really is a worthwhile upgrade, and will do even more when coupled with a cam swap

I wasn't just talking about LS1's... I am pretty sure they make 1.8's for my car too, coulda been 1.6 and im mistaken tho... someone IM me and remind me to check SLP later

1.5 is stock in a sbc, for a cam, rad would have to come off, intake, etc, for the 1.6 rockers, you could just bolt them on but you would need some tall valve covers, and yes the ls1 has the 1.6 rockers, i would not suggest anything higher than a 1.6-1.7 on a stock sbc, and btw, if you had asked 1 month earlier i cound have sold you a set of crane cams 1.6 ratio roller rockers, but they were used but in mint condition

If the cam is under .500 lift, you have no need to remove the valve springs. And if you are thinking of going with an "over .500 lift" camshaft, you would need a stall in the tranny. Stick with a .480 lift or a bit lower....

Stock rockers in your car is 1.5....
1.6 roller rockers will not only reduce friction, they will also raise your valve lift of your stock cam...

It is a very easy job to swap out rocker arms, but you will need to know how to adjust your valves after the are on, if you do it incorrectly, your car will not run right, if it will even start... Autozone has those Magnum rockers for around $180. Or you might find a set of aluminum rockers on ebay even cheaper than that...

Heres a question for you. What does an increased rocker ratio do for you? Less weight I can understand but what do the numbers stand for?

the numbers is how much the rocker moves for the amount that the pushrod pushes it... so in other words, 1.6 ratio roller rocker will open the valve more than a 1.5 ratio will. therefore you can get more air into and out of the cylinder

the fact that its a roller is what will reduce valvetrain friction, which can give you longer life of the parts (by reducing wear), and rev the engine up quicker because the parts will move easier

ahhhh......
cool.
So on an L98 the stock ones are 1.4 or 1.5?

pretty sure its 1.5, don't quote me, but i'm pretty sure...

1.6 ratio rockers is like adding lift to your cam, allowing valves to stay open longer, adding more air/fuel to the combustion chambers. Basically, If you have a .480 lift cam, 1.6 rockers would make it around .510 lift....

alright, for the cam...yeah, follow above steps...but what about the lifters? you forgot about taking those out. and the new rocker arms, to do it the right way, you have to zero out the cylinder ( put both valves at closed position and install, then check for gap and all) any manual will tell you this, and so should the company that sells you the rockers. the roller rockers remove friction from the valve train, allowing easier operation, less stress, and opens the valves smoother.
