switching shops

alright, so i'm fed up with having to deal with the shop that installed my alarm/remote start. i mean 5 visits in 3 days is a little ridiculous. it's one small thing after another.

i was wondering what you all think (and if it would work) if i started asking a different shop questions i have, and possibly fixing the problems the other shop created?

all i want is my alarm and remote start to work right. i'm done jumping through hoops.

What did they do wrong? I would have been pissed enough having just to go back once to have them try to get something right. When i have someplace install something i expect it done right the first time. If its not, ill take my business elsewhere.

well basically my alarm wasn't working. took it in monday, they looked at it for 45 minutes. said the "normal" alarm install guy was off, bring the car back tomorrow. brought it back and they got it working (wouldn't tell me what they did) that same day, later in the afternoon i took it back because the doors weren't locking. there were able to fix it. on wednesday i went up there saying my remote start was acting funky (the car will start then the alarm will trigger). lo and behold the "normal" alarm guy wasn't there yesterday either. took it in this morning and they had the alarm guy look it at. i was able to replicate the problem and the alarm guy looked and me and said, "are you unlocking the car, starting it, then locking it?" i said, "no" he said, "well you have to"

couldn't one of the salespeople explained that to me when i first got it installed. when it was first installed, it was doing the same problem. i took it back and they were able to fix it with in 10 minutes. i was albe to KEEP the car locked and start it with no problems. none of the BS unlock, start, lock type junk.

you would think that there would be same way to bypass it but who knows.

by the way, it's a viper 690xv with add on remote start.

Was it a factory remote start system? If not is it the same place that put it in for you?

no, it's an aftermarket remote start, whatever DEI's add on remote start is. it's the same shop that put the alarm and remot start in the first time.

I would just take it off, aftermarket remote start systems have a bad reputation of screwing shit up on peoples cars. Not only that if you take your car to a mechanic for work and you dont inform them of an aftermarket remote start and they get injured as a result of it, you can be liable for whatever damages they incur.

I'd talk to the manager, give them one chance (and one chance only) to get it right, then ask for a refund. If they don't give you a refund, call your credit card company to dispute the charges.

well with all the problems it's been cause i would never have gotten it, of course hindsight is always perfect. the problem with the shop is that the salespeople don't really know much about installing stuff. i don't know about the manager(s). unfortunately i can't find my reciept.

would they still give me a refund even though it was installed around 10 months ago? too bad i've become so accustom to it, i like it. especially with out 100 + temps. lately

Receipt? If you charged it, you should easily be able to get a copy of your CC statement showing the purchase.

Refund? Dunno. Depends on the shop's policy. But if you've been back time after time to have it repaired and they haven't done so, you've got a legitimate beef. If 10 mos is too long with them, you can go to the Better Business Bureau, or even take them to court. (Although if your CC company will accept a dispute for the charges, you should be good)

i'll have to check my statements. i may have put it on my debit card. i figure i'll go talk to the manager today once i get off work. i just want to make sure i have enough ammo to blow them away. seems like i do

Hey, bad service is bad service! If they can't install something they sell, and advertise it that way.....

A lot of times good shops will actually fix problems for a discounted price and even free depending on how small or large the problem is.

yeah, last time they were able to fix the remote start problem for free. it was something as simple as plugging in a wire or something like that.

i figure, they installed it they should fix it, FREE

I just got an alarm with remote start on my truck. I can turn the remote start feature off with a little toggle switch though so i like that.

I would just dispute the charges if the companies employees are to incompetant(sp?) so actually install it right the first time.

alarms that have remote start have a timed unlock then lock pulse which is programmed to work in lieu of the remote start. You press the remote start button, then the alarm will chirp as it unlocks, then start, then lock w/o chirping.

I'm assuming your alarm doesn't have the timed pulse which would mean you would have to do it. I'm not sure if you would HAVE to lock it afterwards, so try once without doing that.
