OBD2 into OBD1

Quick question for you guys. What modifications if any do you have to do when installing a 96' or newer B18c1 engine into a 95' GSR chassis other than the ecu? Because in a week or so I'm going to buy another engine for my ride and I want a newer one because chances are it will have less miles. But the guy at the shop is trying to sell me on the OBD1 (for the same price) because he say's that it will be more work for him to put in an OBD2. Sound like BS or what? Any comment's or suggestion's are welcome.

basically, wiring will change. which means more work. obd1 swap will be a direct swap, because all it requires is removing the old block and putting in the new. obd1 is a much easier obd to work with. obd1 is more user friendly. obd1 is less demanding emmissions wise. so your going to buy an engine assuming it has lower miles?

in the end, if your concerned with mileage, which, im assuming your concerned with engine health. a compression and leakdown result is a much better indicator of engine health.

ex. i would prefer an obd1 b18c1 with 100,000 miles with a compression result of 200psi and 6% leakdown result across the board than an obd2 b18c1 with 40,000 miles with a compression result of 175psi and 15% leakdown results across the board.

Your totally right. I'm not even going to argue with you about that one. As a matter of fact I tried asking the guy at the shop if I can see the compression and leakdown results of all the GSR engine's that he had in stock. And you know what he told me? That maybe I should do business at another shop because I worry too much. My first reaction wanted to be "OK I will then". Except I've been shopping around for a while and he is one of the biggest importer's of JDM engine's around my area with the best price's I've seen. Hand's down. So what do you do? He swore up and down that he wouldn't sell me a lemon engine and how that would be counter productive for him because he's doing the labor for me and that he wouldn't want to do the labor twice. But that still isn't good enough for me because they only offer you a start up warranty. Maybe I'll just speak to one of the other guy's at that shop on a day that he's not there.

if he can garuntee that the engine will have good compression and leakdown results after the install, then, it is worth getting. if it doesnt look good, then rip it off and put in a new one.

they should be able to give it a leakdown test prior to you buying. how can you sell engines, and not be able to test it before selling?
