85 jetta won't start

Have a 85' jetta that ran out of gas , put more gas later and will not start cranks and cranks has power but will not start. please help

if it is a gas engine. pull the rubber intake hose off the intake manifold and try spraying starting fluid in the intake while someone turns over the engine.
If the engine sounds like or starts to turn over you'll know it's the line. because you ran out of gas, you could have sucked sediment into the line filter. change filter, blow out the line with compressed air- with the gas cap off from the front of the car back
