One question about the RI's.

If the RIs took action about the law changes do you think it would be any different. Would the NHTSA/DOT listen or give them anymore attention? Apparently they know they cant or they would have been done something to get more bussiness. What do you think? If they requested something should be done would it be any more effective?

I doubt it, the market is so small, and limited to a few particular vehicles, the Skyline GTR/GTS/GTT being the most visible example. Economically, and politically, there just isn't a strong reason to push the issue. Rhetorically, say passing the regulations were feasible again in a timely manner, and that the cost of importation and legalization were reduced to the range of $25-$50K, how many people would still have the schlitz to afford and maintain that type of vehicle? Just my :2cents:

Yeah you have a point. But it depends on what law your talking about changing. Like reudcing the number of years a vehicle has to wait to be bought in with no restrictions or eliminating the need to petition or crash test a vehicle to prove its safety capabilities. They would more likely be able to change the 25 year law than would be able to change the petition methods. They wouldnt stand a chance against that. I think the law should be 15-20 years not 25. In Australia the 15 year rule was eliminated so now only vehicles made on or before 1989 can be imported. Sucks to be them. With the way things are going now how do you think things will shape up in a few years? Do you think in the next 3 years things will be easier or more difficult?

... Everything will remain just the way it is, until 2014 rolls around. For the Tuner world at least, I know there are plenty of people with high hopes for this year.
I'm one of them... Just think how many new cars can be imported when that times comes around.

I wish the number of years could be shorten so we could all get the cars we want sooner. At this point even a 5 year reduction to 20 will satisfy me. Maybe before 2014 things may be alittle easier. For me that year want be until 2017 when I can import a MarkII Tourer V, 2020 when I can get a R33 GTR, and 2023 when I can import a Lancer Evolution 5. That sounds like along time. Now imagine how sooner that would be if they took off just 5 years. You could get your 89 R32 sooner (2009). 20 years seems more reasonable, 25 years sound alittle unreasonable dont you think? Just think about it, if we had more people like us (import auto enthusiast) who understand how it is in the NHTSA/DOT office things would be more easier. And as the older generation dies out and the younger generation who favors imports and understand how it is take their place this will happen.

Well like I said... The Government isn't going to change anything, just because kids want to import Skylines. It's not worth their time to change the law.
Unfortunately... We'll just have to keep waiting.

thaaats ok. i have a ton of plans when 2014 comes around. sileighty, crx siR, and hell...another skyline. BUT like zed said, the government wont change the law because a very small market bitches about something. yea sure....everyone WANTS a 'line, but how many people can afford it? maintain it? what about insurance? the costs add up, dude trust me its not easy. i can barley afford mine, and i dont even have it insured (guess i shouldnt have said that but oh well).

Precisely my point... People down me for going from 3 300ZedX's, to a Civic. And I tell you, high performance cars are impractical for a reason. They're made for a caliper of people that can afford those types of cars.
I for one, cannot afford the maintenance, parts, insurance, actual costs of owning a Skyline quite yet.
So a few more years, and I'll have my dream car... However, for now, a practical, cheap, fuel efficient, mild-performance car will do just fine ;)

And also. The skyline is not really the car Im after. I can wait 25 years for a skyline. I mean I want one and who doesnt, but Im in no rush to get one. I can wait. Im not that crazy about it. The JDM car Im after and can not wait to get is a Toyota Mark II tourer V. I like sport sedans and the MarkII/Chaser are great sleepers. And one question about the skylines. Whats your favorite skyline? If I got one it would be an R33. Its not as bland as an R32 or as obvious as an R34. Its in the middle. I prefer the look of it to the others.

I'd prefer to have a BNR32... Around 550bhp, nothing too crazy. An amazing Suspension Set-Up, NISMO fascia, and a set of Bride Racing Buckets.
That would be one fun car right there.

I would rather get the BNR32 because most people don't relly now about those cars and It's my favorite Skyline...
I can wait til 2014 for a BNR32 because Well I'm still in HighSchool and don't have a job and plus Collage, that would be around 2014 when I would graduate collage and stuff...
I can wait for 25 years and there will be some still around and if gas isn't to expensive I would get one and drive it around and all that..

yea see :D you have something to make your insurance cheaper. what did you classify your line under? i called statefarm, geico, and a few others and they all told me that it would be classified under sports/exotic....the same shit that ferraris are insured under. not being 30, and not being married, i dont have anything to make it cheaper....other than to say that im a part time driver and the car is for pleasure.

honestly, I'm not sure... my broker that had insured my 04 wrx did everything for me.
My policy says Nissan Skyline and they did ask for a copy of my regi.
Just so you can get an idea of what it would cost you, I pay $50 more a year than I payed for my 2004 wrx. ;)
