Dashboard Removal?

Camaro Rookie

Hey all
Trying to remove the dashboard to get to 2 bolts that are holding the instrument cluster trim panel on my '95. The plastic feels really brittle so I didn't want to go jamming a ratchet under it. I can pry up on it gently and release that pseudo-velcro patch underneath, but don't know where to go from there. It almost looks like I have to remove the door trim panel to get it out, but I'm hoping not. How do I get that damned thing out so I can do what I was gonna do???
Yeah, sounds like a rookie type question don't it? Believe me, I researched it before posting here, 'cuz it sounds retarded to even me!
Thanks in advance all

Not sure about the 95 but on a 89 there are small bolts all the way along under the edge of the top of the dash (dash pad). I know on a 89 you can remove these; and remove the dash pad, which may help. Again I dont have much of a image of what the dash looks like in a '95 so this is like a shot in the dark. I'm sure others will chime in.

Man, I looked everywhere... there are no more bolts that I can see, and there's no way to get under the dash if there were any holding it in.

Take pics. The 97-02 dash is a little different but shouldnt be too much different. Worse comes to worse I have my chiltons aroudn here somewhere (you should pick it up, very informative and helpful)

I have the Haynes, I do need to pick up the Chiltons though. But the Haynes doesn't say anything about the forward piece. All it says is... Remove the 5 or so bolts that hold the trim panel in place and pull straight out to remove it. Tried that but it's still in there solid, so I pulled the dash up and saw that there's still 2 bolts holding it on.
I'll try to post pics tonight.

Cant say ive ever seen the dash of a fourth gen taken off. But I would say that there has to be more bolts or tabs that your not seeing if it dosent come off easily.

97,
You say it's not bad... can you provide some guidance for me?

Like I said, pics would help a lot. You're trying to just get the instrument cluster out? If so, you do not need to take out the whole thing, just the bezel around it, then a few bolts holding the plastic on, then pull

And here's where the last 2? bolts are hiding (underneath)

And here's where it shows that the Lighting and A/C Panels are covered by the same trim panel.

Final bump...

maybe you cna get to it from the bottow? lol, how big are the bolts? maybe you can get the out with a socket driver... (not sure how much room you have to work with (you did say you couldnt really get a ratchet in there) a socket driver is just like a screw driver with a socket on the end)

Yeah, it's too tight. Wouldn't be able to get it angled right to get to the bolt. The bolts are vertical, going in from the top.

you can get 2 extensions & one of those elbow entensions... (its a u joint... just like on a driveshaft, jsut smaller for ratchets) you can hook all that shit up to your ratchet and slide it down in there and if your carefull and take it slow you shouldnt break anything... if you can acctaully get that stuff in there... im not sure tho, its not all that big...

im sorry, im just throwing ideas up there, you would know better then be what will work, im just trying to give you an idea how to go about it... i dont know what will work, as i cant see it and dont have a camaro of my own :(

damn i wish i had my license or at the very least a camaro of my own...

Camaro Rookie

Well hey, I appreciate the input either way. I'll give the extension and elbow a shot.

Lift off the top piece, if should be easier to get to. If the top is liek mine it is just snapped/velcrod on, but be careful because it's fragile. Then just twist and remove the sonsorsfor the DRLs and alarm/keyless if you have it, and remove that panel. You should be able to get at the 7mm screws then
