94 Formula - Changing Plugs/Wires from top?

Well I have had my 1994 Formula LT1 for 9 years now, and it has just hit 100k so I think its time for new plugs and wires. After giving it a look over I can see why the mechanic wants to charge so much for changing them. Everything is stock on car, I am wondering if it is even possible to to change the plugs and wires from the top (remove alternator , PS?). I doubt it is very feasible, it seems one would have to go bottom for some, and the thought of routing the new wires isn't pleasant either heh. Any thoughts? I will probably pay someone to do it I guess, but I usually just change my own plugs on my other car. But this doesn't look nearly as easy :disappoin .

Are there any guides with good instructions and pictures? I think I found one for an LS1, but mine is an LT1 and didn't know if there were enough pertinent differences on changing plugs and wires.

The LT1's really need to remove the alternator to get to the number 2 plug. The number 7 plug is extremely hard to get out from the top but if you jack it up it comes out real easy from the bottom. Its very cramped and the most difficult plugs are definetly 2 and 8 but its a doable job even for a novice. Just take your time and make sure you don't have to be anywhere the next day and expect to spend like 6+ hours on this if its your first time. I also suggest you invest in a haynes manual. good luck and welcome to the forum

Thanks for help. I just like to keep it running smooth, think I should just go with the stock plugs and wires? I was thinking maybe the the NGK TR55 and 8mm wires since I was going to the trouble.

Anyway, I will pick up an manual and give it a shot.

Ac delco are really the best plugs on LT1's out there. I have tried plenty and I like the feel with the basic AC delco and if ask around for LT1 owner's you will find that 99.999999% say the same and for wires, as long as you don't have headers to burn them up.. You should be safe with any type you choose.

i have a 96 trans am i don't know how much alike they are but we had to do one side of mine from the top and the other side from the bottom one of them was also under the alternator so we had to take it out to get to it.

Yeah, I have bought my plugs and wires (ac delco), I havent put the in yet, but yeah I don't see how it is possible to get them all from the top. Going to find some ramps and give it a go when I can set a day aside heh, it doesn't look as easy as my last car.
