Yep...I think I'm laying down the scalpel and getting out of this world. I will finish the Chevelle for my dad, and the Corvette for a family friend, but after that I'm done. It's not just this site, but I'm tired of being one of the only girls in a guy-dominated world and getting no respect for it. I've had my back turned on by the car club at A&M, and even the local car buddies back home whom I've known for years are treating me like crap. I am just sick of it.
I will let you all know when/if I decide to sell my kits.

I am sorry to hear that. I dont know why it would be such a big deal based on somebodies gender. I have seen fantastic female builders before. I dont think gender would have anything to do with the ability to build a model.

You are very talented, it would be sad to see you stop building just because some other people are inconsiderate and opinionated. Besides, what will you do with all that free time? :p I hope you really don't think the tamscc has turned it's back on you, that's not the case at all. But if you do feel that way, I just hope that you will enjoy whatever it is that you will move on to and find what you are looking for.

How did the car club turn their back on you? Sounds like a low act.

I quit model building when I turned 17, it was said to me, a few times that I shouldn't waste my time with such toys..!! This was by someone who was meant to inspire me, not hurt me..
I restarted the hobby in December 2004, and it was my own mother who told me to start again. She said it was a shame as I'm a creative person, and just because of comments made when I was young I shouldn't have stopped.. Odd enough, it was my own farther who told me I was wasting my time etc...
Cut a long tale short, don't quit.. If I hadn't quit I would have or would be I think a great model builder... 16 years lost, doing nothing but watching TV and silly stuff.. My life has been filled with lots of fun etc, but model building should have been one of them...
DO not quit just because of comments by others.. I post models on this forum, hundreds look, only a few comment.. so what.. I think my models are getting better... Do not care what others think..
I hope you don't quit.. Only you can decide this. Good luck..

First and foremost you should be in this hobby and building models for yourself, not to impress the guys down at the local IPMS. I for one and, I think most of the guys on this forum, have total respect for girl modelers. Its very refreshing to see so I'll add my name to the petition to stop you from putting down your scalpel.

Don't quit unless you don't enjoy building anymore.
Build for yourself, not someone else's approval, that includes us here on the board.
Too bad if you build something someone else doesn't like, too bad for them that is.
There is an old saying, "Your opinion of me is none of my business".
If you enjoy what you are doing, other peoples negative opinions should have no effect on that. Just dismiss them.
Whatever you do, don't make a hasty decision.
Keep your tools and models until you are sure you are through.
While I don't know you, my guess is you still want to build.
Sadly there are a lot of jerks in the modelling world.
Think it over, I hope you stick around and keep building... - Mark

99civichic - or Kat if I can call you that :)
1. I didn't realise untill only recently that you are a lady - and it didn't chane a damn thing.
2. from what I've seen of you (if you know what I mean :) ) I think you've got more balls than that just to quit because of some jerks. Quit if you don't like building kits. Quit if you haven't got the
time. Quit if you haven't got the nerves to cope with 3 shitty paint jobs in a row. But above all if you do build, build for yourself and cos you like it! a
3. Sod the car club at A&M! You've got us on this forum to help you out when you need it. Think about all that collective experience from all over the world to call on.
4. If you leave, where else am I gonna be able to make stupid posts and not get my keyboard smashed over my head? ;)

If you quit, then " they" have won. As many others already have said, donīt let others put you down, if they canīt accept you, scr*w them. Itīs their loss really! Just read the last sentence in the post right above mine " A girl that.."
I think that deep inside, you donīt really want to quit. And if you do put down the tools and supplies, iīll bet my sharpest scalpel blade that the styrene-itch will come within a few weeks ;)

If you enjoy building, keep doing it! No matter what you pursue in life there is going to be somebody who doesn't think you should. The more you see of these people (and I've seen quite a few) the more you realize that the joke's on them for being too bitter to enjoy life - while you get to do something that you enjoy.
If they're making you miserable in a hobby, ignore them not the hobby!

WTF, why would you give up something you like doing? That would be like giving up sex. I was once told, if it feels good and it's not hurting anyone then do it. Build for yourself Kat, that is the best advise I can give. If I take a built model to a competition and I don't win I'm not going to stop building thats for sure. We all have bad days, move on and keep building.

And no one "turned their back on you" in TAMSCC. Despite what some people on this site say, we arent idiots (well, execpt for mike and silverstang). Just because we arent all drag racers and model builders doesnt mean we are bad people.

Don't let a few A Holes ruin your enjoyment of life and the pursuit of happiness through your hobbies.
It's one thing to move on because you lost interest or something else came along to steal your modeling time. But just because there might be some irrational jealousy isn't a good reason to put down the superglue.
We have a female in our club who we have a great time with, she's a whole lot easier going than her husband and she's an awesome builder and a lot of fun to be around. We really miss her when she's not at a meeting. She knows her cars too. I can honestly say there is no prejudice against her at all in our club.
Screw Texas if they can't take a joke. Move to Atlanta and you'll have the time of your life  .

If by some reason you do leave, don't stop building, use models as an escape from those that look down upon you for doing something you enjoy. Fight the man and hit him in the effing balls if need be.

Plus, seems like the dude with the enzo likes your modeling. I would be more concerned with his opinion.

I also didnt realise that you were female till now, and all I can do is echo what everyone else has said, if you enjoy it get on doing it, and just flick the "v"'s to everyone else who thinks otherwise.

a model is "just" a toy.
just like the eiffel tower is "only" a radio antennae
just like the Mona Lisa is "just" a painting
just like the grand canyon is "just" a hole in the ground
these things arent valued for their use, their value lies in their beauty, and the work put into them.
just think, long after we are gone, long after the cars we model are rusted away, these plastic miniatures will still be there, as a record of what our society once had. just like the clay soldiers found in china.

I'm sure that I have replied in some of your threads. So I think I have a say in this... please don't quit. Your builds are awesome and much better than most I've ever seen. Don't quit because other peoples' stupidity. When I first saw your builds and know that you're a woman, I was impressed that there are someone (a women that is) who can actually build cars and is good at it.
Some people come up to me and say "why are you wasting your time building all this?" and I'll just reply "I'd rather be wasting my time building models than wasting my life doing drugs!". :iceslolan

Tell all of the haters to go straight to hell. Do not quit because of others; that's the reaction they would expect from you. Your character comes across as a lot stronger than that. Your models are excellent and you have a lot to be proud of. Who cares if they're too damned narrow-minded to accept that you are a lady builder?! :dunno: Stick with it and continue to give us the excellent builds to which we've become accustomed to.

I'm impartial on this cos I don't know the full facts about what happened. I think we need to know that before we all stick up for her.

Let me start by saying I only have internet access while I'm at work, so I didn't see any of this last night.
I went home last night and did a lot of thinking. Well, after stopping by the dealership to visit the Cobra that can't go home with me (at least, not yet...) where I chatted with a salesman for a short while. I told him why I wanted a Cobra, and why I didn't want the supercharged one (not factory)...and when I got to the part about installing the turbo kit I've all but paid for, he asked me four times if I was doing the work...was I doing it myself...so, I actually know how to do work...did I even have tools...it was a very frustrating end to a very bad day. And you guys are giving the A&M people too much credit; sure they upset me, but they weren't the worst ones of the lot. I got told off by new members on the back home site (I believe the words "arrogant bitch" were used at least once) of which I have been a member since two months after the site was launched and old friends (including moderators) who have supported and encouraged me for years said nothing.
I got home and there was the Viper, waiting for suspension assembly...motor was done, sitting there all shiny...valve covers glowing orange...I picked it up, looked at it, wondered what I was going to do with it. Put everything in the box and shut it up. Opened it again. Let's just say that is the strangest suspension setup I've ever seen on a model...and I didn't paint the springs.
I'm not one to leave things unfinished; you all will see the completed Copperhead and C6. Guess we'll just see where it goes from there. Thank you for your kind words and support, it really does mean a lot to me. Of all the sites I am a member of, this one has the kindest and most supportive members. You may yet save me from a life of poetry writing (something I really haven't done since I took up this crazy hobby)

i too used to lay my thoughts and dreams on paper. as a means of release when there was no one else to turn too. I got back into modelling real heavy about a year ago, after i found this portion of the site. it gives you a means of realease, a means of creative expressionism.....and most of all a means to own the things you desire to have, some of the baddest cars on the face of the planet.....i've got big dreams for when i graduate, but none of them include lamborghini's and Farrari's. To look at your builds, the detail, the care, the knowledge that you bring to them, it is something that you truely love. I feel that we build for much the same reason. We keep our builds for the most part on the realistic side, and follow our dreams or ideas for 1:1 vehicles, how we would build them if they were real. I'm not sure if any of that made sense, or even where to go from there. but i hope that it has reached you in some way. and I truely hope that it helps. the last thing we need is to lose a member like you who brings so much knowledge and creativity to the site.

dont quit, u have some really nice models. and it dont matter if ur a chick, i wish my girlfreind built car models lol
:iagree: I'm 100% with you buddy;)
Some of us thought about quitting too, but what i did was take a short break. What you have to do though is keep the boxes of your models somewhere that you will notice them atleast more than once a day. So that one day you will pick them up and be back here showing us all of your creativity and talent through plastic, holla ! :p

Who are you building for? If you're only building models to satisfy or impress someone else, or to "be cool", then you might as well quit. Personally, I build models for myself, and if other people don't like what I do, screw 'em.
