Cams for 2001G20

Does anyone make cams for the 2001?? I called up JWT and they said they dont make them.....why is that??

The 2000+ SR20DE's have a different valvetrain that will need a different cam than the earlier motors.

Do you know of anyone that makes them??

best thing to do is to call JWT weekly until the start making them!

to be frank, i'm getting quite fed up w/ them not offering sh!t for the 2000+ models... hell there's the 2000/2001/2002 that could all benefit from this.

they didnt even offer a Pop Charger kit for the 2000+ cars until they happened to notice that the MAF is the same as the new sentras... so now they "sell" 2000+ g20 intakes...

load of crap if you ask me.!! stop ignoring the G20's!!

and hell.. when i order a 2000+ g20 pop, you could at least label it so.. not.. Sentra and have the consumer get all confused as soon as they open the damn thing up and be forced to call them...

i wont even get into their catch phrase when you call and ask if they make a certain part, or when the turbo is coming out, or ECU's..

seriously....JWT might know what they are doing with cars, but they dont do the the best for customer relations......

I swear their site is sooo out of date its not even funny. Its miss leading and is prob a bad thing to have out on the web. When I first got my G20 I went right past JWT because their site only has the P10 listed. But then I found out through this board they do make P11 parts and had to learn through this board about what parts they have out. What the fliping A is that!!!

IT'S NOT FOR NOTHING BUT I REALLY DON'T LIKE THE FIT OF THE POP , I TOO RAN INTO THE PROBLEM OF GETTING FILTER FOR A 99 INSTEAD OF A 2000+. IT HITS THE HOOD CAUSE IT'S SO BIG AND MAKES A VIBRATION AGAINST THE HOOK. IN THE SUMMER IT FEELS ACTUALLY SLOWER CAUSE TI'S SO BIG AND INJESTS SO MUCH HOT AIR AND I'VE TESTED IT WITH THE GTECH AND RAN LOW 16'S ALL THE TIME AND THE MORE I RAN THE CAR THE SLOWER MY TIMES WERE. IN THE WINTER I CAN PULL A 15.9 ALL DAY. I THINK THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE POP CHARGER IS SEALED AT THE END WITH THAT CHOME PLATED SURFACE AND THE LEAD THAT FEEDS AIR INTO THE CAR IS RIGHT UP AGAINST IT . I ORDERED THE WEAPON R CONE AND ADAPTER AND THE CAR FEELS MUCH BETTER. NOT TO KNOW THE JWT , IT'S A QUALITY PEICE AND SEEMED TO BE LOUDER BUT IT IS MUCH TO BIG FOR THAT LITTLE SPACE. about the turbo do you know if anyone else is making any turbo kits for the 2001 or do i just have to wait for jwt

well theres the FMAX and Hotshot SR20DE kits, but of course they will need some tweeking and theres no ECU with it, so you'd need to have JWT reprogram it for you, or use a piggyback device. some other mods may also be needed....


as for the JWT, you can bet than when it actually comes out they wont have ECU's ready for the 2000+ models, only the 99's.. what else is new? another quam i have with them is the fact that there's no intercooler in their ba$e turbo system...

As Jason said, the valvetrain on the newer engines is different. It uses a roller rocker which requires a different cam design.

I've been told (by someone who had done a buttload of cam testing for them) that they are working on a roller cam.

It is in the process of being updated. A personal friend of mine is working on it.

They know it needs to be updated. But, they have put their resources into product development rather than web development.

If you want pretty pictures and someone giving wrong answers on the phone all the time, buy from Stealin (Stillen). Shit they even marketed their camber plates for the P10! (camber plates don't work on our suspensions)

As for being fed up that they don't make stuff for your car, just get in line. Believe me, you won't be at the head of the line. They don't even make an ECU for the Z after 95 and the Z market is way bigger than the G20 market.

They are a small shop turning out quality product. They have 5 employees including Jim and Clark to do development, production, and administrative. They work long hours and have more projects that they'd like to do than they have time.

As I said, if you want pretty pictures.... if you want someone to answer the phone all the time (and probably feed you misinformation), and slap out mediocre parts, call Stealin.

hmm...that's why companies expand. from a business stand point (and that's what they are in) they are a very lousy company in terms of growth..although all the Nissan guys knows their name, they need to work on their act and reach out to the customers. Quality of job, no one would argue that JWT produces lousy products, however, that's not the only aspect of business. Updating websites, hire more sales/engineers/managers are all part of expanding the company and, for a business, that's what they should focus on...as well as churning out quality product.
I know the G20 market is tiny compare to the other Nissans, however, their turbo kit is featured in 2 national magazines with SCC doing a 6page report on how great the kit is...that was 2 years ago. Forget about the 02 cams....just as George pointed out, the ECUs for 95+ Z32s arent even done...we are heading into 2002 as we speak. NOT a very well run business.
all 2 of their sales also have a very bad attitude in regards to explain/sell things to you, which is their reponsiblity. I understand they probably have tons of phones ring...but if we should stop calling becasue it'll "annoy" them...why do they even offer phone numbers for us to call? If you cant handle the volume of the calls...it's not the consumer's fault but the company...in this case, JWT.
Getting in line waiting for products that are already in production means that the company is heading towards the right direction....getting in line waiting for a company to produce products in demand (i am NOT coming from a G20 persepective because i know G20 have a very small market) simply reflects the company's inability to produce products.....new cars such as the 02 G20 or the new sentras are one thing...but a 1995 300ZX ECU is not out yet???? Give me a break.....Mine's of Japan build an entire R34 one month BEFORE the actual production of the car!!!!
Who says you can't have pretty pictures AND quality products? Marketing (pretty pictures) attracts customer and quality sells...a good company would strive to acheive that...and wont leave their company web site un touched for 3 years?

As for the roller rocker cams in the 2000+ models, this is just ridiculous! It's still only a modified sr20de cam, which they already offer. The 2000 models have been out since 1999, how long does it take to modify a camshaft??

If you want a cam real bad send them the Gude. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to take your money and re-grind them for you. Don't expect good results however! :)

You guys know how funny this thread is? There was an arguement about business practices of JWT on the main SE-R list about a month ago. All the above arguments were made, but you know what the finally reality is? It's their business to run how they choose. You can criticize it all you want. Maybe they are happy with their size and influence. Maybe they don't want to expand.

If you're piss about JWT not making a 99 or 00+ ECU then go to GForce and they'll be happy to take your money and claim to have tuned your ECU. Or you could bust out a tonne of money and get a TEC-II or Motec piggyback/standalone system.

OK, are there any European companies that offer cams for SR20DE (...)? I mean older models, as well as 99+. Anyone with any experience with these?

Large growth isn't necessarily good. If you want growth and image, go to Stealin. The bottom line is nearly the entire SR20 aftermarket in this country has some connection to JWT. If it weren't for Mike Kojima, they would have blown off the SR20 market, but instead he convinced them it's viable and they have resonded.

As for their priorities, the roller engines have been used for what, two model years? And, the engine is going to be replaced by the QR25. If you want to bitch and whine, that's your right. Whatever makes you happy. But, before you skewer JWT, who else has roller cams? There's no law that says they have to produce aftermarket parts for everyone who wants them.

Life is full of choices. If you don't like your choices, it's not JWT's fault. Why is it people bitch about JWT, but not JUN?

As for the pretty pictures and web site, I'd rather have great products.

Also, JWT is well aware of the demand for various products they don't make currently. Calling them every day or every week is just being childish. It also makes them want to spend even less time on the phone, and that hurts those who have more ligitimate needs of their time.

Stillen does have some issues with their staff not knowing as much about Nissan cars and parts. I think this is due to the fact that they are not a Nissan-only company.

Stillen does however go A LOT further to keep customers happy and coming back. They also have better service as far as getting products out to customers in a timely manner and making sure they are sent out properly.

An example: When I orderd my POP charger. It took almost 2 weeks for the package to arrive. I called them after a week and it had just gone out. When I finally got the package it was barely taped up, the filter didnt even fit in the box and they had to force it in to fit. It was labeled "2000 Sentra", so much for keeping me un-confused. ...Did I mention there was no packing in there at all? and that the support bracket scratched up the chrome on the filter? The kit was in a plastic bag and put...err..shoved!! in a box and sent to me!

Meanwhile at the same time, a friend had ordered the Stillen POP kit and gotten it in less than a week... nicely packaged too I might add. Sure he paid $40 more, but hell, he got SERVICE.

JWT also marks up everything to try and scam the clueless buyer. If you call JWT for a POP kit, they'll tell you its $170. Unless you know that they have sold it cheaper, they will charge you $170 not $120.

If you call Stillen they will tell you straight out.. product "x" lists for "this" much, I can sell it to you for "this" much.

Who should be dubbed Stealin now?

True. The connection is that more than half of JWT's customers are not happy with the companies delays and service. Yes they offer good products but I have yet to find one person that was completely satisfied with JWT's service.

Well they have been claiming since April of 2000 that the camshafts were already developed. So yes I will bitch about it since THEY are the ones who tell you "yes, we just started production on them call back in a month" Last time I called was March of 2001........ STILL NO CAMSHAFTS!!!! Its now almost August.

I'd just like to make an observation here. In North America there is a tendancy to pay exactly what the price tag is. There are a lot of places that will negoiate a price with you as long are you are willing. So everyone should be aware that the Performance aftermarket is one of these 'businesses' that will negoiate price with you. I actually got my POP for $125 and has no problems with packing or shipping. My cam gears and header were also packed very well.

Whoa now! My fancy new dongle here lists for $3,000 but I'll give it to you for $1000, now that's a deal. How do you know that the actual part can't be had for even less?? Stillen could be atifically marking up prices so make you fell like you get a deal.

I have yet to find one person that was completely satisfied with JWT's service.
Put me down as one that is satisfied.

I like how there is a lot of people that seem to think companies exist for the betterment of human society. Like, "It only costs x amount of money to make that stupid thing. How come they can't sell it for x-n! They are scamming us!" Companies exist to make money. Good customer service is an intangible that helps customers come back and give them more money. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Unfortunatly the performance aftermarket just sucks for the most part anyway for customer service.

As Dante from Clerks said, "This job would be great if it wasn't for the f'in customers." That's what we are f'in customers. We eat product and shit money...they just have to try and keep us happy. If they don't they go out of business. JWT is still in business, so they are keeping someone happy. :):)

Just like Stillen and 2000 other companies. Producing original and quality product (JWT does a very good job of that) is up to the company. Focuz and Tenzo decides to produce knock-offs and cheap quality product and that's their choice..it has nothing to do with a company wanting to grow or not.
If they would have just "blown off" the SR market...HAHA...IMO, they would have been outta the business already. In fact, the SR market is what JWT is primary known for!!!
I am not trying to say that JWT arent aware of whats in demand and i am not criticizing JWT for not producing stuff for the G20 or the newer cams...coming from a businss stand point, since there's only a small % of us owns G20, JWT will make more money on producing products for a more popular car. (yes, JWT are in this business to make money!!!! ALL business are) But i am criticzing them for advertising products they have fail to produce...as such as the aforementioned G20 turbo kit and the cams. And just because the motor is getting replaced by the QR engine, i dont think that has ANYTHING to do with not producing the products that they said they will....the Z32, the entire line up has been discontinued..not just the motor, but i dont see them not making anything for the car right?
Understand that I am not a JWT hater...i bought their POP charger for my car, I just dont agree with their business practice since i am in the same industry as well. But all said and done, even if i disagree, they wont do a thing to change...even if you agree with their business practice, Jason, George and many others, JWT probably wont care either. no one is complaining or whining...someone points out "why is JWT not out with the product yet" is not complaining but simply stating the truth.

pretty pictures and quality? why cant you have both???? a Web site represents a company, just like a physical store....if a restaurant is dirty, full of rats, messy table, flies everywhere, yet they have the world's best food..would you feel "good" to eat there? If you were the owner of that restaurant, wouldnt you want to make your restaurant appealing to customers? Of course, thousands of dirty restaurants like taht survive and so will JWT, but the point is, the image of the company is just as important as having quality product, they go hand in hand, why ignor one or the other?

I have two problems with what you said....yea, i know there isnt a law saying that they have to make aftermarket parts for everyone who wants them, but they are the ones who say they do....for example, they say they have turbo kits, and yet there isnt one......there is no reason for them to say that they have something when they dont..........secondly.......it really isnt that hard to have both pretty pictures/nice website and good products........there are thousands of companies out there that do!!!!!!!!!

Brian, as far as my frustration with JWT getting out that damn ECU for the 99's, yes I am dissappointed. However as a paying customer the items I have bought and received have been top notch and delivered in a timely fashion, especially for a aftermarket vendor! If the ECU is not done by the time I'm ready to turbo I'll be looking for different options and not bitching. Not once did I ever attack JWT business practices or the people who work there.

Final comment on this, for me anyway. JWT is a private company, they don't have to answer to shareholders or board members as to the growth of the company. They are probably just fine with the amount of money that they bring in. It's Jim's business to do with as he pleases. It just happenes to be a free company, if you think you can grind up a better set of cams or crack the ECU code and tune it better, faster and get it to market quicker go right ahead. Till then deal with it and find another solution.

As seemingly dissapointed as I am (research done by b-boogie) I'm very happy with the products I've gotten from JWT and will most likely buy from them again.

So on that note... *group hug* :)

Jason, I never questioned the quality of their product, not once.

What I meant when I started this whole JWT rant, was that JWT has quality products, but should really concider some project/time management help and better customer service.

-maybe hire some more sales people to deal with customers, instead of all the shop workers.

-maybe get a new web page up and running which details all their projects, timelines, eta's, maybe even a place for people to voice opinions/requests. this could cut down on a lot of call volume.


Again, I dont run JWT or work there, so I really dont have a say but as a customer I can have views and needs.

Well they have more satisfied customers than they can keep up with. I consider that success.

I like JWT. They have never BS'd me. Ever. OTOH, I don't take up a lot of their time on the phone asking lots of questions without spending money. In fact, I spend more time spending money with them than talking with them.

Some people (not here) have in the past accused me of having my nose firmly up their arse, but that is not true. I don't hassle them. I buy directly from them at full price rather than trying to find the cheapest price in the country. They know me now and give me extra attention. A consumer relationship is a two way street.

Oh my GOD! Stealin has been the worst since way back when they were Nissan only. I once heard them referred to as "The Ferengie." Words are true. At the first SE-R National Convention we had an open house at Stealin and I listened to their sales staff lie like rugs to people.

Whoa! Are you sure you don't have JWT and Stealin backwards? Good God, the thing I absolutely HATE about Stealin is that they do NOT have a fixed price. I have never heard of JWT dickering on price, but always heard this of Stealin.

When I bought my first mods for my 91 SE-R I got involved with a group deal to buy an intake. Right after I got into the group deal my exhaust went so I bought a header and GReddy from Stealin. I told the phone slime that I was on the SE-R list and he told me they couldn't come down on price. I got charged $90 more than anyone could buy it any day of the week. They totally bent me over.

Wow. I've heard a few problems with service from JWT, but that has mainly been from Ben doing his job answering questions and keeping Clark away from the phone so he can develop products.

Are you sure they told you they were already making them? I've never heard that from anyone else and I'm pretty well connected in the SR20 community. I've always heard that people have been told they are working on them.

That's actually funny Luke. JWT has a ton of Z business. They do a lot of stuff you just don't know about. The only reason they are known so much for the SR20 stuff is because of Mike Kojima. If it weren't for him they would still be a Z shop. They do a lot more Z business than you think.

Whoa. I've never heard of them advertising the turbo kit or the roller cams. They don't. Period. I think a lot of people hear what they want to hear. The turbo kit was developed for Nissan. When Nissan lost interest in the project, JWT went back to some of their own projects they were wanting to develop. They still want to produce the turbo kit, but I've never heard of them advertising it. It was a prototype kit. Period. I've never known them to advertise roller cams either.

They are working on it. But resources are limited and their resources are mainly going into R&D and production.

Interesting analogy Luke. I'd think it's more like some of the best resturants that look like nothing, but serve some of the greatest food in the world. Rats are a different issue. But ambiance isn't always necessary to enjoy a great meal.

I have two problems with what you said....yea, i know there isnt a law saying that they have to make aftermarket parts for everyone who wants them, but they are the ones who say they do....for example, they say they have turbo kits, and yet there isnt one......there is no reason for them to say that they have something when they dont..........

Yeah, but they don't say they have turbo kits. They don't say they have roller cams either.

Saying they plan to offer them is not the same as saying they have them.

Maybe you're getting set prices from them cause they know you, so they're not trying to shaft you.

As for differences in Stillen costs... the only place that I can say I've experienced an issue with them is, sometimes you can get their stuff cheaper through your local shop. Reason being that Stillen gives bigger price breaks to dealers so they can make a little profit.


As far as JWT goes, yes they make quality products. I'll even shake Mr. Jim Wolf's hand, but for example I have heard A LOT more people gripe/complain/get pissed off at/fed up with JWT's "service" on this forum than I've heard cries about Stillen.


Ales, as for the european cams... I know Piper makes sr20de camshafts. Not sure if they have roller rocker ones though. There's also one other company there that makes them, I'd have to dig up the name....

interesting.....ok, maybe they havent said they have them.......maybe thy just say they are planning to offer them.......but that just furthers my point that they crummy customer relations.....that issue in SCC, it came out two years ago.....i didnt realize that planning takes so long.........

Wow. Like I said, this is totally the opposite of the experiences of the SE-R list (as well as mine over the last 4.5 years). I don't know anybody on the SE-R list with a good thing to say about Stillen.

I think that is why people think JWT is saying they have a turbo kit. That kit was being developed for Nissan, not the aftermarket. Nissan was looking at the feasibility of adding this to the P11 as a "factory" option.

This was strictly a commissioned job, not a freelance job. After Nissan lost interest (read financing it), Wolf moved on to other things. I don't think they have abandoned the idea, but they also know there is a huge competition in turbo SR20s. If it were me, I'd scrap the project. Between DET swaps, HS, and F-Max kits, why build it?

BTW, F-Max already has a running prototype of the Stage III (or is that IV) turbo kit with equal length tubes and a merge collector. Initial reports are outstanding.

Maybe JWT just doesnt like us G20 people! :p

btw... YES numerous times Ben has told me that the roller rocker cams were finished being tested and about to be produced.

as I mentioned before... I've had this similer conversation more than once..

Ben: we're testing them, but not selling them yet

NAH! Hell, Clark has a P10. He has the 300ZX brakes. In fact, when I saw his is what prompted Al Abadilla (PrimerAl) to do this mod. Clark even had the 300ZX wheels on the car at the time. Now he has 17" Konig Villans (or did last October when I was there).

I do have to admit that I've heard a number of occasions of miscommunication between Ben and callers. I'm not trying to slam Ben or JWT, but I do have to admit that is the case.

I'll check with a friend of mine who has been working with them on their cam testing. He will probably know the scoop on the roller cams. If he doesn't know, I'll ask Mike Kojima. I have to call him tonight anyway.

To get back to the original question.. in the UK - Piper cams (they suck), Kent cams (were used in the Nissan factory works team)
There are a couple of other US ans JDM manufacturers as well, some rip offs of already established manufacturers grinds.
Jwt is the only manufacturer using new billets from Nissan and not regrinds as the case with most others.
I hope this answers your question slickkedar, now all you other boys can get back to your spirited discussion of Stillen selling other manufacturers products rebadged as theirs and JWT developing the 99 G20 ECU for three years and counting. I have JWT S3 cams and am quite happy. The is also another manufacturer of an ECU for a 99 ECU that I had read about previously somewhere else if someone would care to add to this.. and FYI the Motorola Touring Cup G20 from the Roswell Infinti camp was using a JWT ECU in their 99 G20 and the 2000 from an earlier model SE-R in which their mechanic had gone to great trouble to rewire the engine harness to the ECU. I got this information firsthand from one of their people last year that I was chatting to at the Toyo booth where I was parked at at the NOPI nationals in case anyone wonders the validity of the smoke I am blowing. The Roswell guys are no more, the didn't have the funds to keep the team going re-building the motor after every race, which was by the way, decked out by what I learned and they were independent of Roswell Infiniti so that is my contrubution to this mess. OK guys, I just got off the phone and have the straight scoop on the JWT roller cams from the guy who is in charge of the test program. :D

The prototypes have been in a car for a little while now. They need a little more final testing to determine optimum lob separation angles.

JWT has the billets and once the final round of testing is done, they will go into production.

No, not next week, and probably not next month. :p

Well, maybe next month, who knows? The guy with the mule lives a bit of a distance away, so that is part of the delay (since testing cannot be done at the drop of a hat).

So, I assure you they are nearing completion, but I also assure you they are not ready just yet. :sun:

if JWT didnt advertise the turbo kit for the G20, then it must be my imagination that both SCC AND Turbo magazine did articles on advertising the JWT turbo kit for the 1999 G20. SCC and Turbo magazine wont just write the article for no particluar reason..the only reason they wrote it is because JWT asked them to. To Advertise it.
A business aim to grow...when it's time to grow, careful management decisions, finances as well as a customer base should all be considered before expanding...perhaps JWT doesnt have good management decision nor good finance to expand...but generally, a company always aim for better and bigger growth. OF COURSE many companies tries to expand too fast and eventually go belly up...there are also MANY MANY companies that expand and become better. As you mentioned earlier...JWT has only 5 staff? i am guessing JWT has been in the business for more than 10 years? with 5 only five people running it...it will be really really tough to run a good business that way. As for the comment being made that JWT didnt really HAVE to support the SR market, i really dont think one person's say (this case, Mike) has that big of an effect on the company producing a certain product or aim for a certain market....JWT would eventually support the SR market anyway because of the amount of people that are in it. It just seems common sense that a "business" would listen to the demand, but not just one person.

i dont know of any company so far who is making new cams for the newer SR motor, I can check with Tomei or Toda to see but most likely not because i dont think they have the roller style cams in japan for the FWD SRs...but that i am not 100%.

See, this is where misinformation gets started Luke. An article is not advertising, although sometimes the difference can be fuzzy. But the articles are not advertising. As I said, the turbo P11 was a commissioned work by Nissan. Prototype stuff gets in magazines all the time. Hell, Stillen had a couple of turbo SR20s in magazines, yet neither kit was ever offered for sale. Sometimes things are just engineering exercises. Sometimes they are gauging interest. I don't know what the purpose of the article was. But to make the big leap of saying JWT is advertising a turbo kit is just wrong.

No, they don't always aim for growth. I'm sorry if you were offended because I said you were naive for thinking this way. I was not trying to be insulting. But, you are running your own business, and you should know that businesses don't always want to grow as fast as they can. JWT is growing. Slowly. That's the way they want it. They have high standards and will not sacrifice them for the sake of growth. Nothing wrong with that. Just because they prefer slow growth is no reason to assume they don't have good management or good finances.

The previous company I worked for went belly up from growing too rapidly.

Luke, the fact is that JWT had no serious intention of getting heavily into the SR20 market. Mike had to do some serious convincing. I'm privy to some information you are not. It's not my place to share this however.

You'll just have to trust me on this one. In the end, they did support the market and it is now a major market for them. It may very well not have ended up this way.

There are for sure roller cam SR20s in Japan. I think one of those companies does make cams for roller rocker cars.

But, JWT cams are indeed in testing. I've even been told hp figures, but I'm not at liberty to share that at this time.

Tomei does make SR20 cams, that was my second choice.

Hehe. Same with mine Jason. Got "freed up for other opportunities" for the same reason. They tried to grow too fast and it all came crashing down. :rolleyes:

I was lucky enough to get picked up (3 months later) by the smaller remnant of the company that was purchased from the last company. It's about 1/4-1/8 the size of the old company. :(

We're keeping Jason in our prayers though. Sucks to be out of work.
