What looks/works best

I just want to know what every thinks would look/work best for a 1995 Blazer. I want to add 3-6 inches but I have a baby and a car seat to think about. I want to pass my Blazer down to my son when he is 16 and in order to do that it has to look good enough to get him all the girls he wants.

If you are a responsible father, you won't give your already tippy to your son with a lift on it.

One small turn of the wheel in the wrong place could have your son being dead.

Also, teenagers don't appreciate vehicles when they are given to them and I think you should give your son something smaller to start off on.

Trust me, it will teach him responsibility which they lack at that age especially when they have their friends on board.

I'm only 18 but I've been working on cars with my father for years. I learned some great lessons. When I was about 16 my parents said they would give me a 1000 dollars for a car. Not much at all. But i bought a 93 talon with a bad transmission for 700 and a trans for 200 with 100 for odds and ends. I took care of that car because it was mine and if anything happened it would come out of my pocket and I would have to fix it. That was really great for me because in taking care of it I saved enough money to buy a 1969 Cutlass. I sold the talon after 2 years for 500 so it served its purpose. Either way I know you want the best for your son so I hope everything works out for you.

No lift gets my vote. C'mon, that thing already tips more than a drunk man at a stripper's joint. And you want to make it even more prone to roll-over in an accident while carrying a child? Do you off-road that deeply off the beaten trail, or are you doing it for looks. If it's for looks, then by all means do so - but get a regular passenger car for the restof the family first. :(

My Blazer is no family car. Its my Truck and mine alone. I bought it for me to play with. We use normal 4 door 4 cyl. cars for transporting the baby, the only time I use my truck is when I drive him to my moms or something. Even though I rarly use it for him I still want to be able to get him in it when I need to. I plan to pass my truck on to my son like my dad passed his on to me. I took care of it because I helped him work on it for years. I gave it to my brother when I turned 21 and he took care of it untill he gave it back to my dad last year. The Blazer may be a bit top heavy but I don't drive it like its a low rider. I know its an SUV and I know its heavy as crap. There is a reason I have never been in an accident, I dive safe. I plan to teach my son the same safe driving that I learned. Its not hard to drive safe and to me its ok to play a little but there is a time and a place. You never pull out onto a busy street blazing tires and yelling "hell yeah". I do like to go off road and I love a big SUV (I hate Trucks). Tall is good but I don't want it any more than 6 inches taller. The truck my dad gave me was a 1988 Silverado with super swampers and a 6 inch lift with a 350 in it. It would roast a tire even with those big mothers on it, but I rarly did that because it wasn't made to roast a tire it was made to climb and creep.

We are not talking about you or your history, we are talking about you handing a young teenager a 2 ton SUV that doesn't handle very well in certain situations.

You need to get out of your younger years and realize that things are different today. Teenagers are NOT like you when you were young.

And you handing a heavy and TIPPY SUV to a 16 year old is pretty well close to handing yourself the loss of your son. I am being bold, but you need to realise this and for a lack of a better phrase, "you need a reality check".

This is amplified if you hand him a lifted truck.

Go buy him a $500 Civic to start with and monitor how he takes care of it.

Anything more than that is a sign of a parent that is NOT taking the responsibility that they are intended to take.

Again, I am not being rude to you RedLT, but you seen to assume to much about today's kids.

There are three words in assume.

"Ass" "U" "Me"

hope you catch my drift.

I'm not gonna try to give you life lessons like BlazerLT, but he does make some good points. But about your question, I would go with a 3 inch suspension lift because the frame on our trucks sets so far under the body of our trucks anyway. I would invest in a set of 8x15 rims with a good bit of back-spacing to get the tires out a little farther. A set of 31x11.50r15's would stabilize the truck a little with the truck setting higher. Hope this help's. Good luck.

All very good points I am sure. There is only one thing you do not realize. I am only 24 years old. My son is only 8 months old. He will not be driving anything for at least another 15+ years. I may wreak it myself, sell it, trade it, or give it to my other child in the next 15 years. I just want to know what I should do right now, here in the present. I know for sure my son will be at least as mature as I was at 16. We do things diffrent here in East Tennessee. We all know the word respect and the last time I seen a wigger or any other rebel teen was in a movie. Things here are peaceful and nice. No crime really cept maybe a DUI. The last murder in our area was 6 years ago and it was a black man who was just passing threw that did it. He killed a hotel clerk trying to get some money to go back to where ever he came from. The worse drug I have ever heard about is pills or weed. Crack is only a word we use to say someone is crazy, like "you dumb ass crack head". Anyhow the point is my son will not be driving for a looooong time, so I need to know what to do with my Blazer for now for me, my self, and I.

 Not you ..... guess I should learn to use quotes more often huh.

Anyhow, I like the suggestion for a 3 inch. Might be enough to make it look better without making it tooooo top heavy.

No problem. The 3 inch is probable what i'll put on mine in a couple of years. I'm working on performance stuff right now. I've got a C.A.I. on the way and then a Ravin Z-55 muffler and 3 inch single exhaust in the next month.

Oh cripes........ my mistake.

Only lift it if you are going to do it properly and stiffen up the suspension.

I plan on giving my 14 year old daughter my blazer when she is old enuff to start driving also. So you can bet I won't be adding any lifting to it.

Course if it was stickly for me.....the 3 inch suspension lift would sufice. This thing goes through gas like there is no tomorrow. I'm sure with bigger tires the MPG would drop too. So nothing too big. And with 3 inches...it looks like alot more than just 3 inches. Most states have a limit on the amout of lift a truck/SUV can have and still be street legal.

:iagree:
LT is right about the teenaged driver. I know we're long past the subject now, but don't give your kids a lifted truck. Especially a Blazer. I was given an 85 Mitsubishi Mighty Max Turbo-D (an awsome truck for it's time) and I rolled it. It was bone-stock and was only about 10-12 inches off the ground. "How?" you ask?
I was 16 and had just left a parking lot full of cheerleaders (Car wash). So I felt like I should show off using the E-brake. Three years later now, I'm finally getting out of the debt I was in for tickets, damages, and small injuries. Now I can save up to go for a 5-3 drop on my Blazer. Just thought I'd share my story. And I strongly disagree with a lifted Blazer. Unless it's the older, bigger "Box" style. SLAM IT!!!!

RedLT, let me be a little more clear on this.

SHUT IT!

Stop insulting people's trucks.

You might not think you are doing it, but you are saying some pretty mean things.

Drop it now.

The way i see it RedLT, if your son is only 8 months old then you have a long time before he is able to drive anyway. But assuming that your blazer is even going to be in running condition in 16 years, go ahead with the lift. I mean you can always take it off if you would like to pass it down to your son. But like everyone else said, giving a 16 year old a blazer for his first vehicle (much less a lifted blazer) is a accident waiting to happen. But since you said it was for you and you alone for now then go ahead a lift it as high as you want.

I hope you all aren't assuming that I have an old "boxie" blazer. And anyways, what's wrong with the "box" style? It wasn't just 80's also. And Finally, you can't actually mean that you don't like the old '72-'75 K5 full convertable? Right? (It's a damn nice SUV! If owned by the right person anyways.)

I'm new here, but I can comment on the prospect of a lifted blazer for a first car.

I am 18 years old, and I own a 95 blazer lt...

I would never recommend a lifted version of it as a first car.

It has nothing to do with the maturity level of the teenage driver, or the life lessons you teach him/her. The simple fact of the matter is that for a first car, it should be [moderately] easy to drive, and difficult to wreck.

My first Car was a 1987 Toyota Camry. It was no chick magnet, and it couldn't run circles around ricers, but it was a dependable car, and more importantly, it was a working one. Just having a car will be an awesome experience for your son, and if you want my opinion, if you really must lift it, then purchase the lift kit when the time comes, let your son drive for about a year without the lift, then install it or have it installed.

I know you want your son to have a "chick magnet" and I can appreciate the feeling. But no car is a chick magnet when it is rolled over in a ditch. So just think of your son's driving ability, and let him get used to driving an suv before you let him get used to driving a lifted blazer.

-Phil

I do like the boxy blazers in a way. They look good with a lift and some style I just don't like older autos because they don't have the power of todays new engines. I could go into more detail but LT kindly asked me to drop it so i will. :D
