18 to buy Superglue-What has the world come to?

Just got back from Home Depot. I am a little pissed off needless to say. I go up to check out and the cashier tries to card me to buy a little thing of superglue gel. These laws are getting to strict. A few stupid drug users ruined for everyone. Now-a-days you have to be 18 to build a damn model.
Whats next? Cant buy sandpaper because I could potentially sand my skin off?

Man, I've never been carded for glue or sparys, sure I'm 18, but it's probably also because I write checks instead of charging/cash so they have to see my license anyways and don't bother to ask, or they just want the sells.

We don´t have those problems here in Scandinavia,( althoug many shops ask for ID if you wanna buy a ordinary lighter..) but if i were you, i´d buy the superglue at the LHS. If they harass you to show ID, i´d tell them that my future hobbyshopping will be at that other LHS..

I feel your pain Mike. I have been stopped soo many times ! Thank god Auto Zone gets rid of their employees every week  If not they would already know not to sell me stuff  Best thing is when they ask you for ID and your shopping with your mother next to you...pricks. :loser:
The trick is, go for the women, specially the really young ones...try to flirt;) If all fails, act like you got the wrong thing and wait a while, then go to another lady Cashier and repeat the process;) It has worked for me since Feb/2005:lol: Hey, your not going to get in trouble for getting someone's number, or are you :uhoh:

Dam! The ID check came up on the register when I was getting the revell RSX kit at walmart. lol...I don't get it though. What does age matter with glue or paint or anything? You can be a bunked out cokehead or a graphitti artist at any age...Bah @ age limitaitions!

That sucks!!!
Was the cashier even old enough to sell you the glue?!? I know with beer you use to have to be old enough to buy it for you to even sell it.
I would have bought ya the glue if you were in front of me.

i wasnt allowed to buy a rated R Movie at walmart, im 17, the legal age to buy and see a rated R movie. Apparently walmart has rules for everything, which royally pissed me off. I had 4 DVDs and told the lady that I would get them elsewhere, where im actually respected and not looked down upon for my age, that sure pissed her off...

I never realized how young you guys are. I mean, me being 20 only, you guys are still pretty young. Anyway, how do the model manufacturers expect to sell to a younger crowd if that crowd can't obtain their supplies legally?

Wal-Marts just covering there butts so they don't get in trouble for anything. I've been at the self checkout at Wal-Mart and if an item comes up that you need carded for one of the cashiers has to come over and verify that your of age to buy, I'm 20 (21 on September 25th...woohoo) and rarely ever get carded. off course, I don't smoke. so There's really nothing for me to get carded for. since I buy 99% of my paint and supplies at Hobby Shops

very good point, i'm 18 (legal age in Aust) and have only been asked for ID 3 times in my life.
BTW: Mike, i always forget you're so young, i always thought you were about 30 something.

Wow, I had no idea there were actually laws about that stuff. I'm 20 and I've been buying all kinds of paints andglue and all kinds of model stuff for years now (never serious about it though until recently) and no ones ever asked me for ID. I know I do look a couple years older than I am, but in the past I didn't. I'm gonna have to go to Wal-Mart and try to buy super glue and see what happens. That is ridiculous.
And by the way, for selling the beer - you only have to be 18, not 21. Well, thats at least to serve it like at a restraunt or bar. Same with being a bartender (I am one). At least in Massachusetts. Dunno how old you have to be to sell from a package store though.

Sorry for getting off-topic. But, does your guys' walmarts sell alcahol or guns n ammo in them? We don't have that kind of stuff in our NJ walmarts..as bad as they are. lol..I think it is humorus how this thread and Zlaja's (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=439663) thread kinda compliment each other.

I agree with whoever said get it at your LHS. It's probably out of your way but it will be easier and they probably know you (or they should based on your skill).
That reminds me of when my girlfriend bought a bunch of tamiya sprays for my brirthday when she was under 18. The clerk (who's my favorite) said if your going to huff it go buy the cheap stuff from ace hardware and if your going to tag somthing get a bigger can from ace.

When I was about 22 I got carded at a restaurant bar in San Diego. Because my license was from out of state, they didn't believe it was real. I didn't get to drink, and at that time the legal age was 18. I was highly unamused    .
I got a California ID card so that shit wouldn't happen again  .

Unbelieveable!
Only in America would a high street store sell guns and ammo but not sell glue to under 18's!

I got carded at a Hobby Lobby for buying acrylic modelling paint...and a lady refused to sell me an X-acto kit at Walmart because I left my ID in the car...nor would she sell it to Will, who had ID, because she didn't know how old I was...
