Hi all.. I just bought my folk's car.. a 2002 Buick Regal and I have a question about the oil's life in the car...
I changed the oil at 50,000km cause usually I change it each 4,500km but I saw a light in the dash that said "change oil soon" only when I start the engine then it goes back to off..
Now I have 60,500km on the car and the light doesn't do anything yet...
I don't have anything that tells me what % the oil is...
So what should I do.. wait til the light comes on ?!
By the way, most of my travel is on highway!!!
Thanks a lot.. Katana1981

The light acts like an oil monitor similar to the ones that show you a percentage. If you have a schedule you go by then change it when you feel necessary. If you want to wait until the light comes on then you may get more than the 4500 Km that you usually guage the oil change by. The decision is all yours.
I would say that with 10500 Km you are probably ready for an oil change regardless of what the light says unless you are using high mileage synthetic oil at which you probably can wait a little longer.

all my cars iv'e owned , i always change oil and filter at 3000 miles...[ not sure of Km translation] 4500Km?
But...all of the cars i have owned have had great motors , and have gotten high miles from them . I think that if you wait for the light to come on, then you have waited too long. Oil and filter are real cheap and labor is easy. its worth it to do more often....GODSPEED MY FRIEND and GOODLUCK!

I would go every 3000 miles as said by regalfriend. These engines will last forever if you change the oil regularly

Thanks.. I had a Chrysler Intrepid 2001.. I've sold the car with 350 000 km on it and still in excellent shape (engin, body etc..) and I've change the oil on it each 3000 miles.. So thanks all, I'll still change the oil every 3000 miles ;) thanks a lot..
