Whats causing this?

Well last night I put a genaric E-bay short ram on my 86 Si beater. It ran fine and everything last night so I thought everything was good. Well today I go outside and it won't start. So I popped the hood and then it started, so I shut the hood, and backed out of my driveway. When I did that, the car sputtered and nearly died. When I got on the road and put it in gear, it completely died. So me and a friend pushed it back up my driveway and popped the hood. Now everytime I give it gas with the hood down it nearly dies. When the hood is up, it runs fine. Now, I think the diameter of the filter is too big. Because the hood sits right on top of the filter when its shut. So I think it doesnt get enough air with the hood down. What should I do about this? Get a filter with a smaller diameter? Or could the problem be somewhere else? I put screws in the two little hoses that go into the emmisions box, because I don't have any caps. Could there be a problem there? I'm a little confused here, so any input is greatly appreciated.

For an 86 Prelude? Hard to find. Besides this thing didn't cost much. And I figured the problem out. When my brother was checking the intake out, he pushed it to far down and un connected the a ignition wire.
