I'm havin a lil trouble. I'm trying to drain my tranny (engine replacement) and can't find the plug. Are the plugs only on the 400's? Do I have to loosen the pan? I slid the tranny mount back toward the rear end and still cannot find that damn plug!! Please help. Thanks.

Do yourself a favor and install a drain plug while you have the pan off. You'll thank yourself next time you want to change the fluid or drop the pan.

The idea behind the no-plug pan is to force the mechanics to drop the pan in order to change the fluid. May as well change the filter while you're there too.

That may be but even if you are dropping the pan having a plug makes for a much neater job. Plus you can change your fluid more often without spending all the extra time of moving the crossmenber and removing the pan. I like to change the fluid every year. The filter maybe every 2-3 years.

Changing the fluid and NOT changing the filter is like taking a shower and putting on dirty underwear right after.

Not if your still changing the filter at the recommended intervals or sooner. Think of it this way; you change your fluid and filter at 40,000 miles. I change my fluid every 10,000 and the filter at 40,000. Which tranny do you think has cleaner, fresher fluid?

I have never seen a filter that was clogged, and never had an auto trans failure in over 20 years.
