92 accord transmission problem

hi all !! i am a new comer to honda and i am about to purchase a 92 accord with trany problem,it doesn't shift past 1st gear ,before i do anything ,is it a complicated job to do? or should i try to change the fluid first pls advise thank you

If it has a vacuum modulator (I think it does), that's the first thing to look at. They can't upshift if the modulator is blown or it is leaking vacuum between it and the motor.
Modulators are mounted externally, close to the valve body (what you see when you take the pan off). Usually a small round canister with a metal vacuum line running down to the off the intake manifold of the engine. Check the connections at both ends for disconnection or cracking where it could be sucking air, and then if that;s ok, pull the line off the modulator. If fluid drips out, or there is oily residue inside the line, the diaphragm is blown. Replacement is pretty self explanatory.
If you find this might be the problem, and go to replace it, just make sure you don't drop the small pin that fits inside the part of the modulator that goes into the tranny. I don't remember if Hondas have that or not, but they won't work without it if it gets lost.
