95 Villager - Rear Blower Moter Ground

Hopefully someone will have some thoughts/advice!

I have a rear blower motor that doesn't work in a 95 Villager.

I pulled the cover and found I am getting a positive test light when checking either side of the connector on the rear motor but the motor doesn't work. I grounded the yellow/black wire and the motor would run at any speed selected on the rear panel.

My question is, can I just ground this wire to the chasis or do I need to look for other problems further down the line that is not letting this ground?

Thanks in advance!

ground it to the chassis and get that rear ac going again. It is a common problem and that is the solution

Thanks!

I just wanted to bounce this off of someone who may have knowledge of the problem & its solution!

IH8SPM got it right. If you want to split hairs though, the actual problem/cause is one or more bad solder joints on the relay on the control panel in the center stack up front.

I've seen bad ones, better ones, and ones that have more than one bad solder joint, but these are mass-soldered in a wave solder machine; if one is screwed up, the other 99,999,999 control panels are screwed up there too! We've always re-soldered them and let them heat up very well before applying the solder, and it works 99% of the time, but I'm thinking his sugesstion would be a more surefire fix.

The last one we fixed, we decided that re-soldering might not be quite the ticket, and jumpered over the relay. Not exactly kosher, but I doubt the amperage draw of the blower would ever be enough to cause problems.

Is the problem I'm having as a result of the solder joints? I read posts for that and while it was pretty straight forward, I don't solder very well. I would be more concerned about buggering up the circuit board.

So if I I ground the Yellow/Black wire on the rear blower to the chasis, will this cause any problems? What I'm asking is this still going to be protected by a fuse or breaker somewhere?

Is the relay in the dash what protects this circuit?

I haven't done anything yet. I was waiting for the weekend. It looks like it will be more involved than I thought cause I can't seem to see anyplace to actually ground it. I figure I'll have to pull off the whole panel to get to something metal.

Thanks for the help!

Pull the covers back or extend the wire and attatch it to the floor or side of the vans support frame. Use a knife or sand paper to remove any paint that may be there so you can get a good connection. If you want you may want to remove the front controls and have someone that can solder resolder the connection for you. Either fix will get it going. If you still fell unsure then just go to a junk yard and buy the front control.

There is another question like this in the villager section that has a break down with all the pictures on how to re-solder the control panel up front. Mine was exactly as shown and my wife and I fixed it ourselves. Look elsewhere in here for "rear A/C" and you will find it.
