Smelling Fuel

Hello All, After Driving My Lumina For Atleast Ten Minutes Or More I Can Smell A Strong Scent Of Gasoline. However My Mileage Has Actually Improved Over Time (k&n Airfilter, New Iac Sensor, New Coil Packs, Drilled Holes In The Air Intake Box, New Battery, Rebuilt Tranny, New Alt, Better Tires And Brakes, New Map/maf Sensor, Plugs And Wires........) Also I Had Some Weird Problems About Two Weeks Ago. The Engine Acted As If It Was Flooded, At First I Thought It Was The Fuel Filter Being Clogged Or The Fuel Pump Went Bad. The Fuel Filter Was Replaced Roughly 2 1/2 Yrs Ago And The Fuel Pump Was Just Replaced Last Summer. I Use Fuel Injector Cleaner (lucas) With Every Oil Change. I Also Use Premium Gas With Every Other Fill Up, I Use Nothing But Shell Or Marathon Gasoline. When The Car Did Start I Had To Keep Pumping The Gas To Keepp It On, Then It Would Eventually Shut Off. When It Did Shut Off, I Would Try To Restart It, And You Can Hear The Engine Trying To Turn Over But It Wouldnt. If It Did Start Up It Would Shut Back Off, After It Would Cut Off It Would Make This Wierd Like Cough Sound. Then I Let The Car Sit For About 15min. And It Started Right Up And Ran Perfectly. Thanx And Have A Great Day.

hello having similar problems with my 91
could be an injector(s)
getting stuck open
could be ignition modual starting to go bad

how hard is to replace the injectors if they are going bad, and what is the location of the ignition modual if this is whats going bad??? would the ignition modual cause a strong scent of unburned gasoline?? what is needed to perform these tasks, your basic wrench, screwdriver, and socket set or is it more complicated then that?? thanks for the reply.

the injectors are under the upper intake manifold(plenum)
you need a 10mm socket for the bolts for that need to remove the throtle body(13mm socket two bolts) and vacuum line for power brakes
i would test them before replacing them
should be able to test for resitance a mechanic told me they should be 14.8 to 15.8 anything lower or higher you should replace them
but when i tested mine i got a reading of 12 don't know if i did something wrong or if i didn't have the right tester or in right setting
not hard
need to remove the fuel rails(after removing upper manifold)
if you don't have a manual i would get one
haynes manuall explains manifold removal pretty well
just doesn't tell you how to test the injectors
replace all o rings if you do remove them
ignition modual on front of engine block
the coils are mounted to it
three 13mm bolts hold it onthen remove coils
may want to unhook battery one bolt is close to the starter solinoid
autozone can test modual and coils not sure about injectors
all so could be bad low pressure line leek or any fuel line leeking
or the charcol canistor near rear driver side tire under plastic cover
