what kind of car/what are the symptoms ....is it your 88 monte... if so my experience is that it doesnt work...i had an 88 and i tried engine restore..it helped a little bit..but there is no substitute for machine work...if you dont have much of a ridge...i'd ridge ream it and then using a honer do the whole cylinder.....as for the mains measure up the crank...put in new bearings...new cam, chain...etc...the heads...rebuild em or buy new ones... also new freeze plugs and cam bearings...this is all stuff you can do yourself....it would save you money..but...if you are restoring the car i'd have the block magnafluxed...the whole 9 yards

yeah, i put in some of that stuff, and it makes my oil pressure run a little higher than it did before...like 50 psi at idle...not good. im thinking about draining it out and just settling with what i got. it is a possibility that i could get a new motor...maybe, so no machining req'd!!!

50 psi at Idle is fine for a small block chevy,,,My vette has 70 psi at idle and no problems I have a 77 T.A. with a punched 400 ram Air III engine and has 100 psi always idle running ,,hot ,,cold this is all fine,,,althow you only need 10 lbs for every 1000 rpm, If you are gonna rebiuld yourself,,like monticarlossfan says just cut the ridge and hone the cylinders real good and you should be fine,,if you have a hell of a ridge then you may need to bore it to 30 over,,the best way to tell is when the block is apart take a stock ring( new) and put it in the cylinder at top ,before the ridge and check the end gap in the ring,,this is the space between the ends of the ring,,if it is within specs( check a chilton for ring gap) then you will be safe with cutting the ridge and honing it out.
