I got a letter today about my insurance premium increase due to my accident. Unfortunately now I will not be able to pay my insurance and my car payment since I am in school, even while working.
So if anyone is in the Denver metro area and is interested in my vehicle, I need to sell it by September 6th.
Here are some details on it:
2002 Oldsmobile Alero GL1 V6 4 door with just over 52K miles on it. It was however put into service on September 12th, 2001, so think about that when you think about the mileage it has. It was manufactured in August of 2001. It is silver with gray cloth interior. It is equipped with a AM/FM/CD player with RDS, pw, pdl, pm, power drivers seat (height adjustable only), automatic transmission, traction control, automatic headlamps, fog lights, 12" 3M Clear Bra on the hood and fenders and tire pressure warning system. It also has 16" (I think) Alloy wheels. The windows are tinted to as dark as is allowed by law in the state of Colorado.
Some background:
I purchased the vehicle used from a GM dealership with 25,525 miles on it. Before the purchase was made, the intake manifold gasket was repaired with the upgraded materials. This is supposed to prevent the issue from reoccurring. There were minor warranty fixes made but the bigger ones include replacement of the power steering pump and the right front wheel bearing. The dash, which is a problem area on these cars, has been replaced as well, so there is no need to worry about that later. While I have owned it has been in two minor rear collisions in which only the rear bumper cover was effected. In May I was in a front-end collision. The bumper cover, 1 front fender, the radiator, and A/C condenser were all replaced. In all three cases it was repaired at an Autonation Collision Center, which is where many GM Dealers in the area send their cars to. I have all repair records.
I take pretty good care of it and do all maint. religiously. The automatic transmission fluid and filter were done at 30K miles. It was done at a local Aamco Transmission Shop and Valvoline fluid was used. I change the oil every 3K-5K miles using Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5W-30 motor oil and a genuine GM filter every time. Also, I have never used any other fuel in the car than Conoco or Shell. At about 30K miles the Power Steering fluid was flushed and filled by the dealership as were the spark plugs cleaned and regapped, a fuel induction service performed, and a new fuel filter was installed. In April the front brakes were replace, rotors turned, and all front brake harware was cleaned. This job was done at a Midas shop in Ft. Collins, CO. Again, I have all service records.
Rear brakes still have about 50% life left in them and the tred depth of the tires looks the same as they did at 25K miles, no joke. As I have said many times on this forum, I consistently get above 31 MPG on the highway with this car, and the city is usually right at 24 MPG. I have never seen less than 23 MPG with this car.
Just a few days ago, I had an incident with the side-view mirror, but I am looking to replace that before I sell it.
Please e-mail me with questions or inquiries at [email protected] or call me at 303-579-7628. As of right now, I am asking $10K USD for it. I think this is fair considering the condition of the car and that I have ALL service records since I've owned the car.

Real quick: I'm chaning the price to $9,000 USD...I thought I owed more than I did on it. Also, I forgot to mention that it has a "SpeedBuilt" brand strut tower brace installed (front only). I paid $118 for this through PFYC.com about 9 months ago.

Jeremy,
I think there's a for-sale section somewhere on AF. Try posting there as well, also on www.autotrader.com - you might've already; but just in case you haven't; great site.

I tried looking for a classified section on this website, but couldn't find one. I have also listed it in autotrader.com, but no go still. My parents are parking on busy roads, etc. and still hardly any calls. I've even put up flyers all over campus here at CSU with no luck. I REALLY need to sell it by 10/4/05.

Sorry to hear you have to sell the Alero. Have you tried the local Denver area classifieds. They should also put it up on cars.com under the same ad and fee. Thats how our newspaper works. Any car or motorcycle that I ever put in the local paper always sold. Either way, good luck!

Jeremy,
The used car market is crowded right now with all the trade ins taken in to deliver all those employee-priced domestic vehicles. The blue book values for a private sale of a 2002 GL V6 Alero in "good" or "clean" condition ranges from about $6,300-$7,100. You started off too high with your asking price, and it's still higher than the market will likely bear.

Unfortunately I've got to agree - I paid $6900 for my 99 three years ago when it had 35K on it, which I thought was pretty fair at the time.
02 Alero's go for around $5500-6000 in this area if buying from a dealer. I've seen private party sales going for between $4500 and $5000.
Now's a great time to buy a used car, but a bad time to try to sell one.

Instead of giving the car away and taking a big loss, it sounds like he'd be better off keeping it and pay the higher insurance premium. Just my 2 cents. :2cents:
