Oil Pan Replacement

I have a 2000 VW Golf 2.0 GLS and I just stripped out an M14-1.5 S.O. drain plug (which was put in about a year ago when a mechanic stripped out the original). So it seems as though I am in a sticky situation. What route should I take? Every auto parts store i've went to doesn't have a D.O. drainplug. What to do, what to do...Should I replace the oil pan? If so what is a reasonable price to pay? Is it something I can do myself? I looked in the my Chilton's Repair Manual, and it honestly doesn't seem hard at all. Someone told me about ?heliocore? Is that a worthwhile option? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

replacing an oilpan is an easy thing to do, imo. I've done it before, sometimes, its just a lil messy. If you replace the oilpan, at least you'll have replaced the oil pan gasket with it :iceslolan :grinyes: :iceslolan .
Other than than you could always try drilling the plug out, but then theres the chance that shavings could get into the pan and you'd have to take it off anyways just to clean it out :screwy: . I say just replace it :naughty:

Is the oil pan gasket something that is a problem? hehe. Also is there anything I should check while I have my oil pan off?

it varies per car (not specifically vw) about the oilpan. I haven't seen too many problems with the oil pan, but its always better to be better safe than sorry.

I think im going to go ahead and replace it myself. Any suggestions for which website to order from. I checked ecstuning.com and they have it for around $70. I think it sounds like a good deal, considering VW wants 300 for an oem. Also, the one from ecstuning has a steel bottom. Apparently its a bit stronger than the aluminum one. What to do, what to do?

Yeah, go w/ the steel, that price sounds okay to me. Plus you'll reduce the chance of dings in your oil pan. I haven't had time for my car lately because of summer exams ( one for classic mythology on friday and another for entomology this wednesday) :eek7: :eek7: :eek7: :eek7: :eek7: i think my brain is frying from so much studying
