I am considering buying a 1st gen rex with a 13b in it and i was curious what kind of HP gains can be expected when carbing one of these

combine a holley+exhaust, 1500-2000 and u can expect quite a lil bit more power.

The only applications that i like to carb are eithere factory carbed 12a's or a race motor. The only reason i use carbs is because of there simplicity. A simple flat head screwdrive is all you need to tune then and make adjustments. where as a fuel management system requires a computer and some serisou computer skills.
IMO, i would leave it FI and get a fuel controller. You will see more power with a FI setup than a carbed one, but if you simple get carbs and you will see some decent gains, but more is to be had from FI.

...and with a gslse the cool thing is that it was fuel injected...so it would kinda suck to get rid of it.

Exactly.
I would just invest some money into a simple fuel controller (ie Apexi units are fairly common and most places know how to tune them). You will probably see more gains running that setup than with carbs. But keep in mind when someing goes wrong its much harder to diagnose than with carbs.
carbs=simple reliable power (exactly what you want in a race car)

good luck getting the car. i love 1st gens...a lot of fags (non rx7 people) do not give them the credit they deserve. i almost got an 85 gsl-se instead of a 2nd gen about a year ago.
