EGR Valve Change Out

As the owner of a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT supercab with 3.0L/6Cyl. I am looking to change out the EGR Valve with a new one. I have gone for a new Mass. Inspection sticker and was given a report upon failing the emissions test that states I need a new EGR Valve. How easy is it to locate and remove the original/existing valve?? If I absolutely have to take it to a dealership, What should I expect to pay to have this done? I have no problem getting under the vehicle and getting beat up to save a few bucks before I trade it in for a new one.

Any information on this thread would be immensely appreciated.
Thank you.

Is your "Check Engine Light " on. Replacing EGR valve is maybe 2 bolts & 2 hoses, very simple.I replaced egr valve & still had same CEL code. I then did some searching & discovered the problem with the dpfe sensor. It could be the DPFE sensor, it tells the computer that the egr valve is reading correct. They are very well known to go bad 1st. It's a small rectangle box at front of intake with 2 hoses( 1 comming from egr valve) & an electrical connection. It runs about $60 at dealer. Good Luck!!
