1977 engine and transmission help

i have a 1977 nova 4.1L 250 cid engine

ok, i dont know if this is usual, or if it can be fixed but every time i drive it, i MUST wait about 5 minutes for the engine to be running before im able to drive it, or it will stall when i put it in drive (automatic transmission)....does anybody know how to fix this? or do i need to rebuild the engine?

Does it run good once it's warmed up? It sounds like it could be a carburetor choke problem. I would buy a carb rebuild kit (less than $20 for your 1 barrel) and rebuild / readjust the entire carburetor. The kit comes with instructions on how to set everything.
