MAF (Mass airflow sensor)

Hello everyone. I have an ongoing problem with my 2001 sentra GXE. I have an extended warranty with an third party company. Within the last 3 weeks they had to replace my MAF sensor three times. First time my car wouldn't accelerate at all. They changed it and it didn't even make it out of the garage. They said the acceleration was perfect but stalled at idle. So they changed it again and it lasted until I got home. Started it up and it would not go past 2250 RPMs and came back with a P100 code (Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Malfunction). They put a third one in and it lasted me exactly a week. Today I started it and notice my check engine light is on and the same 2250 RPM problem again. I brought it back home and restarted it an hour later and has a problem starting even. The problem is that the warranty company keeps on using a rebuilt MAF everytime to save $200. Anyone have experience with rebuilts?

Gerald

lol bad luck :(. You would think they would try a new method by now.

i didnt think you could rebuild a sensor as fragile and sensitive as a MAF sensor... tell them to get their shit together right now and give you a NEW one

They finally did go about it a new way this time..... They told be they went with another manufact. I checked, they did, it's from the scrap-yard. Atleast I got an original.....

I saw an 03 Sentra like this at work - wouldn't idle correctly, even with trying to choke the air intake with a rag and doing Idle Air Volume Learn. We ended up replacing the ECM.

Check with a dealer if the R87 recall has been done. They remove the ECM from the firewall, open up the case and take out the foam lining.

Thanks for the info cjones7304. I have been running now for around 2.5 weeks with the original MAF sensor from the scrapyard. I know now that re-manufactured MAF's are not as reliable as a good old scrap one....hahaha. I guess it's because the one from the scrap is original and machine made while the rebuilt new one is hand made. Since I did care about the price since it's was under a warrenty but if anyone is interested....a new one is $600CAN a rebuilt one is $400CAN and the one from the scrap is $300. So I guess you should take the chance between the scrapyard (if they got, very rare) and new one. Leave the remanufactured ones alone, my experience so far anyways.
