c280 alternator noise / engine stalling

My 1994 c280 stalls when you first start it in the morning. This happens when the alternator kicks in, I know this by the loud whining coming from it. Can this be cured by simply replacing the Bosch alternator and if so, are any special tools required?

Are you sure you are not hearing the air pump or maybe the a/c compressor? The alternator does not "kick in", the air pump and a/c compressor do. It may be a air leak or a faulty computer causing the idle to not compensate quick enough...or maybe just needs a service?
