Revell's 750iL

Hi,

I can get Revell's BMW 750iL model for 30 euros. So I thought I could ask you guys about your opinion on the kit...

I've built one Revell Premium model before, an 850i, and it kind of dissapointed me. There were so many fit problems;for example, the dashboard didn't fit the interior tub, and the hood had a strange bow in it... Is the 750iL as bad fitting as the 850?

I want to build this model, I like the e32 7 series, but knowing that it might have big fitment problems kind of scares me off...

Yes, it has the same fit issues as all Revell kits of that period. Nothing that can't be fixed though, so if you really want it - build it. 30 Euros sound a bit too much though.

I built that kit years ago. The end result was very nice, but there were problems along the way. The opening trunk was tricky, didn't want to fit right so it would close properly. The upper bodysides were so thick they had sink marks, the area needed to be sanded down significantly to remove sink marks and so the body would look correct. The wheels are too small, I ended up buying a Shabak diecast promo of the car for the correct wheels and selling the diecast w/o wheels later. The engine, opening hood (great four-bar linkage for the hinges), interior are all quite impressive. Put the work in it and it's a beauty, but it's far and away NOT a Tamiya kit! If you just must build a 750iL, go for it, but if you're not that big an enthusiast the kit might be a disappointment. I love the 850i, but never got the kit because I figured it might be as picky as the 750iL. From what I've seen of the body, it's not terribly well engraved either.

Thanks for the comments!

Well, I really like BMW. All of them. With an exception for the 3-series, maybe... but oh well, if the kit has a bad fit, I won't buy it.

And the 8 series... yeah, I think it's not well made. Fit problems all over the place, although there are no marks on the bodyshell...
