What about the wheels off of the Super Stallion Mustang? Might be a bit small though. Just a thought.

Might have to check on the Superstallion wheels, I think they're 18's so they may be a tad small....

The paint is more nail polish, LOL. Very expensive nail polish. But, I got two mists and one wetcoat out of one bottle with enough left over for the valve covers etc. so it ended up cheaper than the cheap stuff that took three bottles!

The brand is OPI and the color is Red Hot Holiday. Available at salons, beauty supply stores, and some grocery stores. I've only seen it at HEB though and they're pretty regional.

The color did come out great Kat! Those wheels look familiar. I'll check if I have something like that. Good luck with the rest of the kit(s).

The valve covers are red on all vipers. The Viper SRT-10 calipers are black on 2003's and on 2004's and up they are red. I think it's looking good though... if anyone else is looking for viper project ideas I have a few that I love from Viper Owners Invitational - 8 that was held buy the dealership I worked at.

99civichic

....and you can't paint them?

Yeah, I know the valve covers are red. But, if I owned one, I'd paint them to match the car. Especially on this one; I think the red would clash with the orange. I mean, the purpose of doing a model is to build something you like right? And I know I'd like it better with matching valve covers and maybe calipers. Not sure.

I'm kinda leaning towards the same black/chrome BBS wheels I put on the bright orange GTS I built, since these are sister cars and will be sharing a case. It'd be simple. But if I find something that looks as good as the actual wheels, that would be awesome.

Can anyone get me a pic of the interior? I read somewhere it's got some orange accents or piping or something...?

Maybe you already saw this but I found a description of it:
"The interior of the Copperhead has matching highlight stitching on the seats, shift boot, shift knob, park brake boot, park brake handle, steering wheel and floormats. In addition to this spectacular paint and interior the Dodge Viper Copperhead Edition also features lightweight Sidewinder wheels, also seen on this year's Detroit and LA Viper Coupe show"

Hey, Brandon! Nice to see you join up! Thanks for the description, that's the one I read but I couldn't find it again. SO, are you gonna start building? Methinks you should....

Actually I was thinking about ordering the Fujimi skyline 350gt(since I will some day get a g35...), since apparently no one makes a 1g dsm model, I found 3000gts, tons of evos, gtos, but no 1g eclipses. I have been reading up on the completed 350gt threads and all the faq/howto threads and I think I can do a decent job on it.

Cobra Colors makes Copperhead Orange, btw. Nevertheless, the color you've chosen looks very close so who am I to say any different?

What size are the rims on this car? Think you could get away with using the 5-spokes off of an R32 Skyline? Drop some Alclad Chrome on 'em and I think you'd have a pretty close match.

Ok,

I remember the Maisto Wrx had these rims I disliked. They looked like these but in chrome. Would they be a close substitute for the Copperhead wheels?

Those are close, but they're a tick on the flat side.

Willimo, can you post pics of the Skyline wheels? I have no idea on the size, but I'd guess they're at least 18s in the front and maybe 19s in the back....

I doubt anyone makes the exact wheels you want, mostly because they're bigs 'n littles, the rear wheels are bigger. Many of the DTM or WRC models have similar spoke designs, but they're probably 18's all the way around (and those R32 rims would be unbelievably tiny on a Viper). This is what kept me from doing this particular car; I was searching Ebay motors for the white Mamba edition Vipers for reference, and saw the new Copperhead version and almost went for it. Because of the wheels I decided to stick w/Plan A and continue on w/the white Mamba edition, w/black and red interior. Someday I'll finish it. The Copperhead version is looking great so far!

Thanks. It's looking more and more like the black BBS wheels...unless I find something totally cool...I didn't think I'd find dead-on wheels but its always worth a shot.

They probably couldnt make models of 1G DSM's because they kept breaking too much!!

Why dont you save the time and money and buy real parts for your real car? Like swaybars, shocks, springs, quarterpanels.....

The only problem using non-stock wheels is that you have to find the proper width for the Viper. She runs rear tyres over a foot wide... serious rubber we're talking about. The fronts are huge too.

hks_kansei
08-04-2005, 06:14 AM
i've had a thought about how to scratch build tyres, it's only an idea, so if somebody try's it before me, i'd like to hear if it works.

take some fairly firm clay, roll a tyre through it making a fairly long tread mark in it (and about the depth of the profile you want), then fill the "mould" with caulking you can buy at a hardware store (i think black is available), let it set then take it out, roll the tyre around a rim and glue it so it wont unroll.

if you want a wide tyre, in the part where you roll out the tread, do it twice right next to each other, slightly overlapping.

i have no idea if that will work, but it's worth a try.

I really hate to be a brat Chad, but on this site they're very picky about threads staying on topic and you would definately be stepping on toes if this were someone else's thread. I'll let this one slide, though.

I managed to get the engine and suspension on this one all together, the fitment was excellent but the assembly strategies were interesting; my fingers learned the art of contortionism I think. It was definately not an easy assembly process. I didn't get any pictures last night, I'll have some tomorrow I promise. I just can't leave this one hanging, not with how pretty that paint is! Thanks for the wheel suggestions. I'll check into them.

BTW, the BBS LM's I put on the previous Viper GTS were from a Corvette C5R model, I think they'd be wide enough...lol

Civichic-Your gonna get that on all the forums about the staying on topic thing. Your Viper looks killer! Keep modelling! I have felt like this before. Then I found a sweet kit and I got back into it. Just give it time!

Hey Civichic,

Ive got a decent rim solution for you. I started with rims from the Skyline ECR 33 Drift Machine and added some deep dish rings from a VIP rim set. then i rapped it in fat Porsche GT-1 rubber. looks pretty convincing though not an exact match. what do you think?

Quick update: Sanded out some crazing on the rear deck of this model, wetsanded the whole car with 800 grit, threw down another coat of color, and then followed with two coats of duplicolor clear. Here are the results:

That's it for now, I won't be able to work on these for two weeks or more. My next posts will hopefully be completed threads of this one and the C6. See yall later!
