Is it true that you can recharge your battery by rolling downhill?

No, the alternator charges the battery to a certain extent and only when it turns does any voltage go to the battery. The best way to charge one is with a charger.
You can start a manual car by drifting and turning the engine over by engaging the clutch but that does not work with an automatic.
