99zx2 vent is cold, but ac is not

Whenever i switch to AC or MAX the compressor kicks off, and it blows out hot air, but when i have the vent on it is cold any ideas?

Hot air, or just not cold (ambient) air?

I mean it's not like it's changing to heat, right?

I'd suspect the dash control got fried, unless there is some specific defect that causes this on these.
