Hey,
I got this kit last year from a friend. The cab was all smashed to hell. I did my best to fix the structure. The frame was broken also, but agian, not beyond repair. With that, I chopped the frame some bit. All by sight, and no measuring, I managed to make the wheelbase the same as the jeep kit, not even on purpose. I have also lifted the unimog slightly. Here's some progress pics and comparo shots. Thank Mr.WRx and Mrs. Tomb Raider jeep for their assistance. Also Unimog 1 and Kodiak Kruiser.

She's taller then Unimog 1

More or less, equal wheelbase. I think the unimog is longer by about 2mm tho.

Mercedes' nice deisel engine. And TURBO!! :grinno:

What to do about the rear? Should I make some kinda bed? I think I might do that with the leftover parts.
Ideas? Comments?
Thanks,
Frank X.

Add some kind of a camper/box to the back of the frame: A bed would look too small, like an Explorer Sport-Trac.

Heres a tip for some finishing touches. Paint the tires flat black, and scuff them up a bit. They look really fake right now.
I will be watching this thread! havent seen a build like this in eons.

Thank's man. You just beat me to asking how I should fix the tires. They are rediculously shiny and soo soft. I was suprised they even hold up the model. The last Unimog kit was fine. I remember reading about using baking soda  being used to take off the shine. How exactly can you do this?
Thanks,
Frank X.

You could sand the tire with some 2000 crit, and wash them in some flat black. I've done a similar method to that before.

I took an easier path and just brush painted flat water-based paint on mine to take the shine off and make them look dirty. There is a pic in my AF gallery.

Cool Unimog!!!
For The Tires, Go To The Autoparts Store And
Get A Spraycan Of Brake Parts Cleaner.
Spray Down The Tires,Rinse With Water.
It Will Take The Shine Off,But Not Harm The Tire.
I've Done This A Bunch Of Times With No Probs.

Hello Blubaja
you are going to make a Unimog of trial championship?? This is a cool and great idea!!
For the tires, look this pics:

http://www.angelsaxo.com/mismodelos/Dakar/Unimog/Proceso/images/DSCN2548.jpg
http://www.angelsaxo.com/mismodelos/Dakar/HDJ80/proceso/images/DSCN2526.jpg
I painted the "dust" with a mixture of XF57 and XF60, leaving the center of the tire without hardly soiling. Later I painted the band of tread and the internal face of the tire.
Finally I painted to 15-20cm of the wheels with XF1 to darken the set
I believe that it seems quite real, I hope that this serves to you as aid ;)
greetings, and you excuse my English... :uhoh:

I forgot! When you finish passes the band of tread by a paper soaked in alcohol so that it seems more real, as if it had walked meters by asphalt for the photos

Hmmm...The rear will be a combination of your(angelsaxo) Unimog and the rescure Hilux. It's not exactly a racing version. Just like a weekend fun vehicle. Thanks for updating your thread man. Gives me alot more ideas now  I think I have to add a rollcage. This thing is just too flimsy, and entirely top heavy, not to mention all that weight in the front too.

I didn't know what was in his signature: I had turned them off when I joined since I find them annoying and distracting. I just turned them back on, we'll see how it goes.
