Ok..I MIGHT buy a new car..and i was wondering if it is a good deal or not
99 Eclipse GSX AWD
44,000 miles
Bigger Turbo then Stock
Injen Coldair
Short Throw Shifter
ACT Extreme Clutch
And a bunch of other mods- Pushing 300 hp around..mabye more
he wants 12,990 for the car. Is that a good deal?
Is it a good car? Will it last to 150k without alot of trouble? What might go wrong with it being its 6-7 years old.

Sounds good to me. As long as the car has nothing wrong with it, that would be an awesome car to own. You might want to find out just how big of a turbo the guy was running, and if he had any type of tuning device like DSMlink. That is really low miles though. :grinyes:

sounds like a good deal, if you know anyone who knows anything more than ou do about cars it would be wise to take them with you to look at it if posible.

Well we have our mechanics look at any of the cars we are interested in, to the point of buying, so someone with some knowledge will be checking it out.

1) GSXs are great cars, but we can't tell you about the specific one you're describing.
2) Depends on how you drive it and how it was/is maintained--just like any other car.
3) The biggest problem associated with 95-99 turbo dsms is crankwalk. You can search for it here to find out what it is, but basically you need a new engine if it happens to you.
Fortunately for you, instances of 99s getting crankwalk are fewer than the older turbo dsms. That's not a guarantee, though.
Bottom line, if you want a car that is reliable every day and will never give you trouble or cost you money, a turbo DSM is not for you.
If you enjoy working on cars (both performance wise and doing maintenance) and going fast, and you can afford to have your car down for a few days a couple of times a year, take the chance. If you baby the car and don't mod it, it will be more reliable than if you upgrade parts and try to go faster.
Find out what kind of turbo is on the car now, and post as much information as you can about it. Then we might be able to tell you a bit more. If it drives smoothly runs well, that's not a bad deal. I would consider it about average--talk the guy down if you can.

God dam thats too much for an Eclipse. Even though its a GSX.. still though its low miles and a 99. The thing im worried is that it has mods pushin it 300hp. If i were to have a car modded to 300hp i would have gone mad with it on the streets. I'm just tryin to say, if u ask that person if it was babied... dont believe them unless u really know them. I'd go with stock eclipse's if i were u. I see a 98 gsx/5spd 74k miles for 7,999 near my area *cali-sacramento*. Thats a good deal since its stock too.

There's nothing wrong with buying a modded car. You just have to be more careful and get a thorough inspection before making your decision. All the GST and GSX owners I know push their cars. Who owns a turbocharged car and doesn't take advantage of it? Ask to see the usual stuff such as maintenance records, smog certificate, check VIN#, etc.

ok..i got the rest of the info..
1st- This car is a friends car..and yes he has raced it once or twice, but he is one of those that only drives 35 in the 35..never over the speed limit.
Ok, now to the aftermarket mods
Turbo- TDOH5/EVo 3 16g with SS Oil Lines
Greddy Type S Blow off Valve
Lower and upper interccoller pipes
Short Shifter
Air/Fuel Gauge
Boost Gauge
Turbo Timer
3" Apexi Exhaust
Injen INtake
Walbro 255 Fuel Pump
That is the mods that he has put on, minus a few little things that he has done..
but am I getting a good deal? or should i pass on the car?
