hey everyone my name is nathan and i am only 15 years old. i dont have a car yet but now switching from wanting a 2g eclipse i now want a 97-03 grand prix GT and i am probally getting one. well getting to the point i want to know what is the wheel offset and also ive been reading a lot of the different posts and some of them say pretty much is pointless getting a cold air intake for a GT and that it would only help if it was supercharged. also dont think im one of them little punk ricer kids because im not. well i hope someone can answer my question thanks alot

Well welcome to the forum. I think it would be best if you read both forums for a while. Come up with which one you want, then start asking what you need.
Good luck. Hope to hear from you in a year.

well ill be 16 in november so its not that far away but see my mom had an eclipse so i already know alot about them and driven it and know how it feels. but it got stolen so just the fact if i got 1 it just creeps me out on getting the same thing. plus the insurance is high for one too we're i checked out a 97 GP GT and it was alot cheeper. i also like the fact its a more roomy car than the small eclipse/talon. but ya id just like to know the wheel offset thanks alot

Sry I can't help you with the wheel offset, but, I would like to say, that I am a fellow teeanger, (17 almost 18 :-D ) and I bought a 2000 GT. And don't let all the guys with GTP's scare you...sure the GT is not as fast, but it's a solid car, and with.....a...decent..amount of work, can be pretty damn fast.
Enjoy, and welcome to the forums, God knows these guys here have helped me out a lot, lol

Im 18 and I was lookin around for cars and my GP GT just happened to be there at the right time. Like he said, I wouldn't say its a fast car, but it can hold it's own, you'll get some respect even if you have to leave it stock (I have). Welcome to the forum, and if you have ANY questions, post em. The guys on here are amazing...
O, and as for the offset, I'm no mechanic, but I found this at clubgp.com, another great site for help:
http://www.clubgp.com/newforum/tm.asp?m=2404711&p=1&tmode=1&smode=1
Dunno if that helps, but there it is.

i would recomend getting the GTP....stock the GT has 190 hp, and the GTP has 240 hp tourqe----220 for the GT and 280 for the GTP<-----not 100% sure about the GT....if you got a GT and wanted to do some mods it would take alot to equel that of the GTP. GTP gets all of its tourqe at low rpm's....maybe 3600 rpm, thus needing the HD version of the 4t65e trans. Plus the GTP comes w/ alot more standard options than the GT. to buy used i dont think the GTP would be a whole lot more than the GT

Dont let anyone tell you that a gt isnt worth fixing. the GTP supercharger doesnt put out much boost at all. I have a 99 Gt and i put a thrasher cold air intake on it and reprogrammed the pcm to my own custom specs and i raced a gtp and beat him barely. i will soon put a supercharger on it and change out the camshaft, and heads.

your numbers for the GT were a little bit off. The stock hp is 195 for the 97 & 98 GTs, and 200 for the 99's and up. The torque is 220 for 97 & 98, 225 for 99's and up. I know its nit-picking, but I just wanted the right numbers. I do agree that performance-wise the GTP is the choice, hands down. But also remember, the kid is gonna be 16, and while the price will be about the same GT to GTP, gas money is another story. The GTPs have a reputation for getting some dismal gas mileage if you drive them hard at all, not to mention you have to pay extra for premium gas. If you can afford to keep up a GTP, go for it, but a GT is a more economical choice and it still has descent performance.
As for the intake, I would personally go with a Fender Well Intake, it gets almost the same results as a Cold Air Intake but costs alot less.

well for me its mostly insurance about a gtp other wise id probally get one. also yeah since it needs preimum gas thats another story too. i was just thinkin the GT would be a better choice for me just because of those two things. ill check out what a GTP would be insurance wise though
also thanks BigBL87 for that wheel offset. haha i love that civic SI picture i had to say i laughed my ass off :iceslolan .
i was just wondering because i was bored. i thought it would be kind of sweet to maybe put so WS-6 rims on if they could fit but i highly doubt that because of the width.

I was wondering the same thing, didn't want to call BS because i figured that might be the case, but you couldn't beat a 97 and up with just a CAI and custom PCM unless he had taken the belt off the supercharger or was running very badly.

The insurance on a GTP shouldn't be that much more...my full coverage insurance is $45/month (I'm 21, almost 22, and female.) As for gas mileage, I get around 22 mpg, and I occasionally race the car, and rarely ever drive below 65-70 mph, unless it's somewhere I know there are cops.
As for cost, I've never really priced any GT's, but my GTP, fully loaded (Every avaliable option except premium sound system) with 94,000 miles on it was $8600, and it booked for right at $10,000 when we bought it.
And just so you know, a GTP will eat a stock eclipse for breakfast. I believe it was a GT or GTS Eclipse that I smoked the other day...

be happy you're phallusly challenged...you're lucky to get that kinda rate...and you obviously don't live in jersey lol. Before we switched to the Gecko (they just started offering it here) it was $1500+/year for a less than 21 year old male on a 93 mazda protege w/o collision! couldn't take that POS anymore and looked at GPs. looked at a 00 gtp and they wanted to tack on another $1000-2000/year so instead of eating ramen for the rest of my college days i decided to get a car w/o a blower.
but you're right on initial price it was only like $7000 for the 00' gtp with similar/same options with 89k miles and it wasn't that much less for the se 3800 with 79k mi.

well now i might be lookin at some GTPs i did an insurance quote and it maybe was 15-20 dollars more. i was looking at the second generation eclipse or talon (95-99) not the third generation. the only thing im worried about is gas since it needs premimum aint i right? or am i wrong? haha

Ya, it does require premium gas. You can use regular in emergencies, but do it too much and it will damage your engine. If you can get the GTP and don't mind paying for premium gas, go for it, I would have if I could afford it. But, seeing as you're only 15, son to be 16, I think the GT would be good for you and your wallet:wink:. Good luck finding your car.
