codes ask for mass air flow sensor

My 92 Buick Regal Custom 3800 check engine soon light started to come on a couple days ago{says wife} I drove it and after it warms up it stalled when I came to a stop and tried to move. I pulled the old paper clip trick, and it told me that it was the mass air flow sensor {MAF}. Does that sound correct and could it make the transmission slip in overdrive when you come to a stop? Also is that something I could install?

i know for sure if the MAF is failing it will stall every time it does not register that you are getting air or how much and throws off the ECM, either style of MAF's are easy to install, there is the tube style with the round Air cleaner, and the sensor like that screws in to on the rectangular Air cleaner just be sure to disconnect your neg battery while replaceing it that will also reset your computer, hope that helps!!
