87 camero, 80,000 automatic.
If your can doesn't have a knock sensor, and you have knock on acceleration, what is causing it? The ECM?

Either you need to run higer octane fuel if you have a high compression engine or you have a bearing going out in your engine and it needs to be rebuilt. Since you didn't give any information on the engine in the car I'm going to guess it's the crank bearing and the engine needs to be rebuilt.

The knock sensor doesn't CAUSE knock, it listens for knock (detonation) and reports it to the ECM. The ECM then pulls timing to try to get the knock counts to 0.
Knock can be caused by several things, bad gas, compression too high, timing too far advanced, carbon build up on pistons, EGR not functioning, wrong heat range spark plugs.....

Sorry forgot the engine size, 2.8 liter.
I just advanced the timing to see if anything would change, my performace came back, lost the hesitation, but the knock is worse.
I guess I'll try retarding the timing next. Could it be a worn distributor or timing chain?

your CAMARO has a knock sensor and is most likely your problem.

The book says I don't have a knock sensor. I've looked everywhere and can't find one. Had it computer analyized, they didn't
find a knock sensor either. Any ideas where to look?
