Revell Viper GTS Problems

I just got this kit and started working on it (since I broke my other kit, gotta find some putty somewhere). I have painted the main body, and have began dry-fitting the other pieces, like the bumpers and hoods and such. However, I came across a problem. This whole kit had AWEFUL extra plastic around the edges of the pieces, that I've had to slice off and smooth out and everything. I didn't have a problem for awhile, until I got to the back bumper. This thing looks like CRAP. The top of the bumper I can see has a decent amount of extra plastic on the top of it. I will cut it out, but this pieces does not seem to have the right angles on its sides to fit on the main body part.
Do any of you guys know which piece I'm talking about, and have done this kit before? Is it normal for this piece to not fit well at all? Does it need some work on it to fit, or do I just have a bad piece? Thanks for your help!

if after you're done taking the "flash" off the edges and you dry fit it, and it's way off as far as fit and doesn't look like the car should i'd recommend ordering another piece from Revell. While you're taking the flash off though, be sure not to take off any tabs that are used for mounting it to the body. I remember this kit as my second one ever made and it was a good kit. As i recall, the back bumper; back part of spoiler, and the taillight housings are all on one piece

I never built this kit, but I think I encountered a similar problem with my Revell Camaro SS. I somewhat fixed it by sanding it on a flat surface, or wrapping sand paper around a ruler and sanding so that the surface is even.

Here are some of the pictures of it to further explain what I was talking about.
Here you can see the curvature of the back of the GTS for reference...

Here's the bumper. I cleaned up the extra plastic fairly well, so that doesn't interfere with putting the pieces together...

Here's how the two pieces fit poorly together...

Do those pictures help out a little bit to explain what I'm trying to say? (I suck with models, lol...)

It looks like those two tabs are just injector marks or something: Is there any hole for them to fit into? If not, cut them off and try it then.

That happened to me a little bit but it was nowhere near that bad, when i built it i was pretty happy with the entire kit, i dont remember there bein tabs there either, mebbe the mold just started to suck and now all the viper kits are crap. You could try bending the spoiler part of the rear or somethin, heat it up a little and coax it to match up better, hard call though, it used to be different

I fixed it. It turned out that the bumper is SUPPOSED to be sunken into the body a little bit. I guess that's how the vipers are made, the sides sink in a tad in the bumper. I pushed the bumper all the way in, sinking the sides a hair and putting those two tabs into their holes (that they were supposed to go in, sorry I forgot to mention that) and it looks a little better. I still don't like how the sides of the bumper are sunken inside the body, but that's the way it looks like it's supposed to be according to some reference pics.
Thanks for the help and thanks a ton blubaja!

Yeah, I had a good bit of problems with the rear bumper on this kit. The GTS actually has scoops tucked into the corners of the bumpers, which the kit fails to capture. When I built this kit, I puttied the back smooth and omitted these scoops.

Yup, I think that is how the back end is supposed to look
