my J30 is becoming a hassle and i want something more fuel efficient.
I don't have a huge budget and will never go toyota, so my eyes are set on honda.
Question (however noobish it may seem)
What is the mechanical difference in the hk/lx/ex civics? is it just the ex has a sunroof and the lx and hk dont?
I have about 13k to spend plus my car is worth like 2,500 for a trade in... if you have an 05, which one did you get and how does it work for you? any major troubles? how's the warranty on civics? (by how, i mean how long and have you had any troubles getting anything taken care of under warranty)
thanks in advance!

I bought an EX Spec Edition. The EX has a more powerful engine than the HX and LX. I've owned 5 civics over the years and have never had any serious mechanical problems that weren't self inflicted. The Honda dealer here in Florida is always friendly and the job is done in a timely manner.

i'll let it be known my intentions... i'm not looking for a race car, or anything to turbo or anything (at the time being of course, i'll definately consider it in the future) but now i'm a college guy needing some reliable transportation that keeps me from gassing up every 5 days. 21mpg does that to you.
anyway, what kind of gas mileage do you get in your civic?
not a big know it all on engines for honda, so what's the difference in the lx/hk/ex?

This same question was asked last week. Look a few threads down for answers.

I'm getting in the mid 30's MPG. The EX's more powerful engine (12 hp over the stock engine) is much more pleasent to drive. It seems to run a little smoother than the Non-VTEC engine in the LX. I've owned both models and not being a race car driver either, I chose the EX. It's better while driving in the hills. If you're after basic transportation I'd look into Civic that's maybe a couple years old. You can find them fairly cheap.
