ive never heard of volant, i have a k&n filter right now... had no idea they made replacement systems

get on e bay, buy the cai for your vehical, drop in the k and n filter, not worth 300 bucks for a fricken pipe

you can actually go to k&n's website to see it;
volant (as dmb mentioned), and toucan, injen and others make
special intakes to straighten and assist in "forcing" the air flow to the intake with limited amounts of bending, or slowing the air down, and/or "scavenging" hot air from under the hood.

you can make your own with PVC piping, or dryer vent hose, or purchase a more generic kit (like at AutoZone, or equal) and "fabricate" it to suit you and your vehicle, and many of these kits, even after conical filter puchase, can still keep you total amount at or around $100.
you could even keep your original set-up, just cut a hole in the bottom of your air box, and run a tube/hose from this to the front of the vehicle(either thru the support housings of the condensor and radiator), or under the front valance and bumper to mount where a fog/driving light would. this will allow additional air into the "mix" without buying anything but the hose and some tie wraps, and you can always take it back to stock, or purchase something else later.

if you do decide on purchasing a name brand, shop the web, as many "e"stores have the same part for different priceings, AND
many offer no tax, and free shipping (so it would cost less than buying it from a local parts store), but you would have to wait for it.

regardless of what you do, pull the fuel inj/pump relay while doing the work, then plug it back in afterwards. this will reset the MAF/MAP immediatley and allow the computer to reconfigure the new air flow specs, rather than waiting for a 30-40 mile "drive cycle" to occur.

Idea related to ctesla's "cut a hole" idea...
If your air intake piping has a resonator on it , remove it to connect the auxilary air intake path. This makes sense if "you can always take it back to stock, or purchase something else later." is important to you. On my 95, it will mate to a 2" pipe connector.
