Tune Up Questions

Im doing a tune up on a 98' Avalon.

I changed the engine oil and filter. I also changed the PCV filter and air filter. I need help with a few other items and I hope someone can assist me.

I noticed that the coolant resevoir was completely empty. What type of coolant does an Avalon use? Also, what is the gap for spark plugs on this car? I just purchased a set of Bosh Platinum 2 plugs, but need the gap level for the plugs.

I was also planning on changing the fuel filter but I do not want to do that before I read a "how to" installation. Does anyone have links to tech sites that might help me?

Check your owner's manual for the information on coolant. The modern Prestone formulation will probably work fine. I use it in mine.

In general, don't use Bosch spark plugs in a Toyota. Use the plugs recommended by Toyota - NGK or Denso. Check the sticker under your hood for plug description and gap - or find them here:

For the fuel filter, spend some money on a repair manual by Chilton or Haynes - you can find them in most auto parts stores. They're cheap. In that regard, I wouldn't change the fuel filter unless I was having trouble cruising on the highway or climbing hills or some other symptom of fuel starvation. They don't plug up that often unless you put some bad gas in the tank.

If you have some extra money, buy the Toyota Service Manual for your car. I think they're worth it, if for no other reason than the Toyota manual has much fewer errors in it than the Chiltons or Haynes manuals.
