Is it a pretty dependable car? Or does it usually have a lot of engine problems and is hard to fix? Also how much hp does a 1990 stock Supra Turbo have?

the head gasket blows out on these cars almost every other day, its about 1500 if you want a Metal head gasket and your head machined and the block smoothed. they have about 240 hp stock, i have one its my only car, i love it:smoka:

my 90' supra turbo i have for 4 years, never had a head gasket problem, i race it all the time, but i'm changing my head gasket in case anyways. Mine is a greddy head gasket 2.0mm. I'm getting a 1.0mm stopper. But there not hard to fix, only if your really in love with supras.
About 232 stock horsepower.

yeah... they have their ups and downs just like any other car.
up=lots of fun
down=headgasket but if you spend a couple hundred bucks getting a MHG (metal head gasket) and some ARP head bolts intalled... that will take care of the down side! ;)

haha, nice. i think ive seen this somewhere else, perhaps supraforums :D
any MK3 supra is reliable if you treat it right, if you treat it like shit, its going to treat you like shit in return! thats a simple as it gets.
dont bother buying one if you arent prepared to learn about the engine itself. you'll only weaken the supra community. :rolleyes:

With the Exception of the Head Gasket, they are quite reliable cars !
The Internals on the motor, and the driveline is capable of huge HP. You can get the new redesigned OEM Head Gasket and you wont have to resurface the block, its a VERY cheap way to go and will let you boost until 12-15 PSI ... not bad. You can also get an HKS / GREDDY Metal HG like me and some of the others here and pretty much boost until your blue in the face... make sure you get the ARP Studs or Bolts though... if you do a headgasket that is ....
BTW, my 89 Turbo made it too 145,000 miles before head gasket failure..

I'm looking into a 1990 Turbo, looks like great fun, but I don't want to spend a fortune on gas, so is it possible to run on regular unleaded?
Would I need to alter the timing, or would the ignition computer adjust?

i think the car would loose all of its fun factor if you did that. you dont buy a Supra to save money on fuel.

That's what I'm afraid of :)
I started out looking for a second car, something reliable and sensible, but I bumped into this 1990 Supra that looks like it would be fun ...
