Quick '01 question.

Tad o' background. My girlfriend just got an '01 Accord the other day. I like it even though it's the I4 model...but in these days of $2.29/gal gas prices, the ~40 mpg is very welcomed...especially because her last vehicle was a Jeep...bleh.
Here's the question. The engine says Vtec on it, but I can't hear the cams open up like I could on my '01 Prelude (RIP). I used to love to wind that thing out (despite the willful slaughter of my gas mileage...thing got horrid mileage for an I4, but it was so fun...even though it took premium...ouch...) cuz it never failed, at around 5200 RPM (if I remember correctly), you could hear that thing open up and you could feel the swift kick in the pants. Loved it. It damn near felt like a turbo suddenly coming on the boost. I just don't get that from the Accord. Is it just not as noticable or what?
