Wonder if the speed Ferrari are showing is for real or just a fuel strategy thing....

I guess Bridgestone have to get it right sooner or later. On the other hand they may just be going for qualifying at the detriment of race longevity. :dunno:

Kimi is first out in qualifying. Quite a tidy time, wonder if it will be good enough to give him a chance tomorrow?

Jarno Trulli is the first man to challenge Raikkonen's time. He takes provisional pole with a very quick final sector, only .052 of a second faster than the McLaren.

Kimi will be around him in a flash...if the Merc doesn't flash first.

The grid id often a bit of a lottery at Hungaroring. Those on the clean side of the track will get much better starts than those on the dirty side. So an odd numbered starting position should be an advantage.

Not a bad effort from Barrichello. He must have been allowed to take the good tyres for a change. Slots into third, 3 tenths behind Trulli.

Montoya take P2, less than a tenth quicker than Trulli.

Alonso stops the clocks, rounding out the session. He will start in a surprisingly low 6th place tomorrow.

Two possibilities here to explain Michael's incredible time. Number one, he has found Damon Hill's secret to the Hungaroring! Or he is chasing Ayrton Senna's pole record and not caring about the race proper. I guess tomorrow will tell.

And wouldn't you know it Kimi is on the dirty side. :( Doesn't give him much chance of jumping the Trulli chicane at the start. Although to be fair to Jarno, maybe he'll be quicker here?

I also hope there is enough fuel in Michael's car for him to complete the formation lap. :lol:

Going out later with rubber down certainly helped MS...but of all the tracks for the B'stones to perform on...whodathunk it?

Didn't take long for team orders to go into effect at McLaren....Kimi goes around JPM in turn one...hehehe...

Great start by Kimi, passing Trulli and Montoya on the first lap. He ans Schumacher are flying.

Big accident for Klein at the start.

Alonso had to pit with damage to his nose. Leaves him at the tail of the field.

Maybe Kimi and Montoya are on diferent strategies, hence the teamwork?

Wow Kimi in very early for his first pitstop.

Ferrari's pace is for real, they aren't light.

Drops him down to 5th but with a fair bit of clear air to Ralf. Trulli in as well. Now it is time for Montoya to earn his paycheck. He must be heavier with fuel than Schumacer. If not is it Ferrari's race.

So far it is only Raikkoen and Truli who stopped early. Partly to be expected given their early posotions in qualifying.

Ah-ha Schumnacher in now. So he was light. Montoya will be out for another ten laps yet.

Came out in second, brilliant strategy so far.

Importantly Raikkonen is back up to third. Still two chances to get past Schumacher.

So far neither Schumacher or the two McLarens have put a foot wrong strategy wise (considering Kimi's qualifying position). Montoya has to have the upper hand at this point.

Montoya is increasing his lead by over a second a lap now. He'll have sufficient margin very soon.

MS didn't gain anything on Kimi, we'll see where JPM comes out.

Yup, Monty didn't quite have enough. I wish Schumacher would quit holding Kimi up. Could be a good fight between the different strategies of the McLarens.

SO who is heavier Kimi or Schumacher. Given that Ferrari saw Kimis stop first I'd expect they were smart enough to cover McLaren.
