Front Springs on a 67...

Yesterday my dad decided to ask me to put in his prothane bushings for the front suspension that he got like a month ago. So I started Wed. and got most of it apart and did it yesterday blah blah. Anyway, today it's time to put it back together and all I need to do is get the springs to seat. But this is becoming very frustrating. Is there a trick to this? Or am I not doing something right? I have a spring compressor and it's compressed a good amount but they are only as far over as i can go from the front of the spring becuase i have to be able to get them off the spring once their in. Otherwords, they are not directly on opposite sides of the spring. (Hope all that made sense).

Any help would be great.

Just an update:

I went to advanced and got a better spring compressor then the one from Auto Zone. The from Auto Zone you use on the outside of the spring and can't get it in becuase you compress only the front of the spring so it does nothing but bow. With the spring compressor from Advanced Auto, it goes up the center of the spring and compresses the whole thing and then you pull it out via the top (under the hood) on the strut towers.
