How to improve handling?

okay, I know most of you are interested in making your car faster and look nicer but my brother has a tt stealth and I have a friend with a 300zx (non-turbo) and they like to take their cars out to drive fast around corners, similar to auto-x. Now I'm not stupid and I know that it would be extremely expensive to get my car to handle as well as their cars but I was wondering what I can do that doesn't cost too much that could keep me somewhere close to them rather than being left in the dust all the time?

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I have a stock '98 GTP

okay so I am looking at the handling upgrade kit and the gmpp suspension package. I know these will definitely improve handling but how much and is it worth $1000? I should also mention that I am looking at buying a Subaru STi in about 2 years so is it worth it?

it depends on what your going to be cornering for..of course if you want great cornering, get both, but if your looking for some improvement go with the sway bars only. if it means a grand to you, then in all means go for it. but for having fun with your buddies and not any type of competition, i wouldnt spend 1k for it. and after that, youll probably handle as good as your friends and bro. good luck with the sti your friends and brother will be jealous when you smoke both of them :-D

Personal experience:
Suspension: Don't use Eibach Pro SPort springs, even if someone gives you a set, which is more likely than one might think.

KYB struts with stock springs is your best budget-bet. Backu it up with good sways, and your set.

Otherwise, $1000 for GMPP or $800 for Koni's spring/strut set, with sways and you might just put off the STI for another years depreciation advantage.
